My First 5 Days As A Co-Moderator...

Postby billyjack » Thu Dec 10, 2015 12:53 pm

Hey guys,
This is my 5th day as a moderator, along with marquette and jet915.

Overall it's been good. There was only one post that I had to disapprove, but I wrote to the poster and I think he was good with it. I will say the quantity of posts needing approval is pretty high. Each time I visit this site there are usually 5 posts that need checking.

Usually I only have my Droid phone while I'm visiting. The Droid is kinda slow and each page takes 6-7-8 seconds to load. Sometimes my Droid times out. Sometimes I get interrupted during this process. So each time I log on it often takes 90+ seconds of farting around before I can read through threads normally.

Anyway, if I could make a request, it would be to avoid using phrases directly at another poster like "if you think "X", then you're a moron, idiot, etc..." I don't mind calling Vitale, Gottlieb and Jay Bilas morons, but don't call posters on this site morons.

The sheer quantity of stever's posts mean that I can't always get around to approving what he's written. I haven't disapproved anything he's written and don't plan on it unless it is over the top disrespectful. Sometimes I think a half dozen might be sitting in the queue, and I can't use up 2 or 3 minutes sifting through each one on my Droid. Maybe if the many posts could be consolidated into one post?

Anyway, it's been a good experience and I'm glad to help, and basically every post has been respectful. I have a new appreciation for the Admin on this site, he really does an excellent job.

I just want to say I think you guys have done a GREAT job!!!!

where it's tough to get things consolidated into one post is if you see a post, reply to it, then there's another post and you reply to that one as well. It's 2 posts in the same thread- you just haven't gotten around to approving it yet. Also when you're moderated you can't see that initial post, so you really can't do what you are asking.

Ok cool.

Also, if you guys want me to notify you once approved, let me know.
I haven't been clicking the notification box so that I don't clog your inbox.

What flags a post as "needing to be approved"?

Is Stever a professional forum poster? Where does one apply for this position? Does it offer Medical, Dental, and 401k?

For moderators, on the main thread page, any thread with a post in the approval queue will have a triangle with a question mark in it. Once I click on the question mark, it takes me to a page with the queued-up posts. Sometimes there are 3 or 4 posts waiting just on one thread.

The Villanova scheduling thread hopefully ran its course. A lot of repeated comments.

But is there something that causes it to need approval (i.e. bad language, etc.)? Does this post I'm making right now need approval?

You have to be under moderation to have your posts flagged for approval.
This is my opinion. There are many like it, but this one is mine.
