Nova hasn't done much at all OOC. A lot of their supposed good wins turned to mush and weren't all that great. You are focusing on just the names and not the actual quality of the teams. 4-4 vs KP top 50 teams last 3 years. I mean, right now their best win since Atlantis 2 years ago OOC is VCU- by a mile.

And it's not that they lost, but in 2 of the 4 games they got blown out. Syracuse beat them by 18. Oklahoma by 23.

compare to what Xavier has done OOC last 3 years... 8-3 vs KP top 50 teams.

like it or not- but OOC is where teams make their hey. And also, all of those 4 conference opponents- none were in the top 50 in 2014.

I think if it was someone else besides Stever more people would be agreeing with him. I don't think Stever is trying to argue against the point that Gottlieb was just waiting for a moment to troll, but rather that Villanova may not be in the championship contender category and more like in the protected seed category. There are reasons right now to think that Nova isn't quite on par with the very best teams, and they will have more opportunities to prove they are a legit contender this year. Obviously Villanova's problem though isn't during Big East play, so the OOC games will get more scrutiny for them than the average team.

I don't think Stever is trying to argue against the point that Gottlieb was just waiting for a moment to troll, but rather that Villanova may not be in the championship contender category and more like in the protected seed category. There are reasons right now to think that Nova isn't quite on par with the very best teams, and they will have more opportunities to prove they are a legit contender this year. Obviously Villanova's problem though isn't during Big East play, so the OOC games will get more scrutiny for them than the average team.

1 thing, really before the tourney, they have 1 more chance. @ Virginia next Saturday. And even if they had gone 34-0 this year, the pressure would be on come tourney time.

and 17 of their OOC wins were against teams 151 or worse. 22 of them 101 or worse. So 16-4 vs top 100 teams. Good. Really good. 4-4 vs top 50 teams though. With the 4 losses having an average MOV of 13 points.

That's debatable, depends on your definition of elite. But then again the point of this thread is basically that Gottlieb is a troll baiting no talent hack, not whether what he said about Nova is right or wrong. Villanova was really good, Xavier was just good, and Villanova was a miserable matchup for Xavier. Simple. Matchups matter. Xavier was a miserable matchup for Georgetown, which contributes to why Xavier went 3-0 against them with two double-digit wins and a closer game that was a double digit lead until Xavier almost blew it in the end. Georgetown actually gained a higher seed than Xavier but just couldn't beat them head to head.

As for Villanova versus the rest of the Big East, well, there were no other really good teams. That was the problem last year: Only one really good team and then a bunch of good to solid teams.

So if nova does not win AT top ten Virginia then they are pretenders?

That's stever's new view? That will be his talking point for the season?

Reminds me of when he ripped the big east recently for not having enough wins against currently ranked teams, as if there were several dozens of those wins to be had among the other conferences.
