If I didn't watch the game I would say you are being sarcastic. But the offense consisted of passing it around the perimeter until someone felt like shooting (Arci many times). No dribble drive, no post-up, just pass it around the 3 pt. line.

and it's frustrating to see because the few times they drive or feed the big man down low they do have success. it's also alarming that their perimeter D couldn't keep up with opposing guard. (again a trend the last couple of years in tournament)

I would love to just chalk this up to a long travel and time difference since the entire team was just awful from 3. there's an off shooting night and then there's night like last night.

That's not exactly true. There was a lot of drive-and-kick, and a lot of the time, it was multiple times in a possession. It made for good ball movement, but in the end, the goal was to get an open three rather than actually try to score or draw a foul on the drive.

Speaking of drawing fouls, Villanova's FT rate so far is 27.0%, 321st in the nation. That's what happens when you are always hunting for a three on a drive rather than committing to the drive itself a decent amount of the time. They have the players to torch perimeter defenders and draw fouls at the rim. As evidence, every returning player had an individual FT rate of 35.0% or better last season. They're just not trying to get to the rim at a decent rate this season.

1 thing that I would say is a smidge deceiving about the FT rate- Nova hasn't been in any close games, so no fouls on purpose the last few minutes of the game. You look at who is #1 in that category- Va Tech(59%)- and they've had 4/8 close games with a ton of FT in all 4 of those.

Agree with XU Fan and Rockwell- it was very simple. They hit threes they win. Late in the game, V was shooting 15% from three and OU was at 55%. It does seem when they get a big physical team they get sped up and shots are a little quicker. Very similar to Creighton's problems in the tournie and even last week against lowly Loyola. IZ was 0-7 but we kept trying. The difference this year is V has some great drivers and were doing well taking it to the basket.

DudeAnon, not being sarcastic at all. I agree 100% with you. I love Jay Wright, and want to keep him as our coach because his recruiting will always keep us competitive. He is a great representative of the University, he gets his kids to play hard, and play with intensity on defense, but the way he runs his offense will always bother me. Literally.....LITERALLY......We live and die by the 3.

Jalen Brunson needs to start slashing more often and more confidently for nova to have a chance at not being a one trick pony. Ochefu could also help the cause by not being soft every time nova plays a good team

Nova had one of the worst 3-point shooting performances any team has had in 20 years.

Oklahoma shot the lights out.

If Oklahoma shoots 50% from 3 and Nova shoots 34% from 3, with the same shot volume, Villanova wins. It's obviously not that simple, but no team is beating a quality opponent shooting that poorly from 3.

However, Nova needs to either start shooting better from deep or to take fewer 3-point shots. The low percentage and high volume is simply unsustainable.
