Truth about the Big East start

Postby stever20 » Sun Nov 29, 2015 1:34 am

was looking at all 10 teams and saw something pretty interesting...
Butler 0 wins against any teams getting votes, 1 loss against ranked team
Creighton 0 wins against any teams getting votes, 1 loss against ranked team
DePaul 0 games against any teams getting votes
Georgetown 0 wins against any teams getting votes, 2 losses against ranked teams
Marquette 1 win against team getting votes(and ranked), 1 loss against team getting votes
PC 1 win against team getting votes(and ranked)
Seton Hall 0 games against any teams getting votes
St Johns 0 wins against any teams getting votes, 2 losses against ranked teams
Villanova 0 games against any teams getting votes
Xavier 1 win against team getting votes

so for the 10 teams combined, 2 ranked wins, 1 more against team getting votes. 6 losses against ranked teams, and 1 against team getting votes. Right now 3 best wins are Marquette vs LSU, PC vs Arizona, and Xavier vs Michigan.

Now having said this- next 2 weeks.
Butler @ Cincy
Georgetown vs Syracuse(not getting votes last week, but will be in top 25 this week)
Providence vs Michigan St
Seton Hall @ GW
Villanova vs Oklahoma
Xavier vs Dayton
Xavier vs Cincy

so 6 top 25 games in the next 2 weeks(and a 7th 2 weeks 1 day).

Now mind you, holding serve is an important thing. That's what's killing the AAC right now. That's what the Big East does way better than the AAC. But to be considered elite IMO you have to beat the ranked teams. Not just destroying Cupcake State(saw that on the other board and loved it).

I speak Stever so let me translate:

"Regardless of the fact that it's been a very good week for the BE, I don't want you FANS of the BE to start feeling good about yourselves, even a little bit. Let me remind you that you haven't beaten anyone and there's a chance (God willing) that your teams will start to lose games, so I can come on here and continue my sky is falling routine...

Here are the facts. We knew coming in that Nova, Butler and X were pretty much locks for the tourney. Nothing has changed. G'town was expected to be a tourney team and losing @ MD and to Duke will not hurt them in the least (both very close games that will earn some points with committee members should MD and Duke win their conferences). They beat Wisc and lost to Radford. I bad loss and 1 decent win. They are on track and look like a tourney team.

Now to the bubble teams...

1). PC has a NPOY candidate and just beat the best team in the Pac-12. If they win today and finish .500 in conference they are in. If they lose today, that is not a tarnish on their record in the least. It's a no lose game for them. So at this point they are looking like a tourney team. Do you think the committee would leave a Kris Dyunn out of the tourney should they be a bubble team? No.

2). After a couple shaky performances vs. Iowa and Belmot, MU has put two very good wins together and, if the season ended today, would be a tourney team IMO. Those two wins are going to be big in March in front of a selection committee because that may be two teams they are competing against for a bid.

3). SHU - got a solid win last night, and beat Ole Miss earlier. One so-so loss. They've got 2 great opportunities ahead of them still @ GW and vs. Wich St. Win one of those and post a solid record in the conf and they are in great shape.

4). CU - looked good again last night. Losing at Indiana is not going to hurt them. Going to give teams fits. Still very much in the hunt. If they keep winning then why not?

So at this point the BE very much has 80% of it's conference in shape to make a run to a bid.

But why would I expect you to ever come on this board and present the glass as half full when it's so much more fun for you to throw your little jabs in there about how the league has not beaten much of anyone.

Here's an example of how ridiculous your post is.

But to be considered elite IMO you have to beat the ranked teams. Not just destroying Cupcake State

So who is ELITE? Is the B1G ELITE?

If so did you know that as a conference they are 2-7 vs ranked teams. One of those wins came against Wich St who played without their AA pt guard.

Bozo post.

Example #2:

B12 = 1-5 vs. ranked teams. Are they ELITE Stever?

PAC 12 = 2-5 vs ranked.

They must be ELITE then?

Also Xavier beat Michigan while they were a ranked team on the road does that not count as a ranked win?

I was going to post about how rankings are meaningless right now, but gumby and nova just did everything that was needed, so let's turn this into a thread of meaningless memes:

You know things are going great for the Big East when Stever resorts to this.

Here are the facts:
Big East is a top 3 conference this year by Kenpom, RPI, etc. AAC is ranked around 10.

Stever, conferences don't have winning records against the top 25. There will always be bottom feeders who lose to the top 25. Take St. John's this year, they were picked to finish last and have 2 losses against the top 25 as expected.

If we won the majority of games against the top 25 then the majority of our teams would actually BE in the top 25 which is completely unrealistic.

To prove this I'll take the top 25 RPI record of the greatest conference ever: the 2010-11 Big East. They were 57-96 against the top 25.

Big East in RPI right now is #6 #4 in Ken Pom.

This upcoming week is huge. Next 8 days we have 6 games against really good teams.

Folks bring up other conferences-
Big Ten top wins so far- Marquette, Georgetown, Kansas
Pac 12 top wins so far- Baylor

there's a reason why the Pac 12 is behind the Big East. They have 2 undefeated teams so far- Oregon and Washington St. Oregon gets UNLV on Friday. Washington St gets Gonzaga on Wednesday night.

As far as my Georgetown- they have 3 OOC losses. If we lost to Syracuse and UConn, we're going to have to put up at least 10 wins in conference play to have any shot.

AS far as Gumby saying the committee wouldn't leave Kris Dunn out if they're on the bubble. The committee has never gave a damn. They left out Kentucky 2 years for gosh sakes.

Seton Hall isn't in good shape. They need to win GW. Wichita St is 2-4 now and could have 7-8 OOC losses(and they're really 1-4).
