But frankly, right now I wouldn't hesitate to call Cooley a liar. Dunn is projected to go from 10-23 in the 1st round. He is stupid to not go this year, there is no other way to put it. If he was given good advice he would be going into the draft. Sorry, but thats how I feel.

If Dunn and his very involved father only listened to Cooley's advice, they made a mistake. However, both Dunn and his father are smart men. They clearly took advice from many and all outside sources they could get in touch with, including NBA personnel, and then made a personal decision. I very much doubt what Cooley had to say about Dunn's draft status carried much weight on their decision.

And besides, does anyone here actually know what Cooley said? Besides one random "inside source" tweet, nobody but Kris, his Father and Cooley know what was said between the three of them. But yeah, go ahead and call someone a liar without knowing one word they said.

Tu Holloway was undersized for the NBA, a combo guard trying to become a PG and, quite frankly, he wasn't good enough if he hasn't worked his way back into the league (see Bryce Cotton). The fight was one thing, but he also came across as an immature loser after the fight, which didn't help.

Not good enough or not, there's a solid chance he lost money by coming back. Holloway's first-round chances after his junior year weren't as clearcut as Anon is making them out to be, but all the same, there was a lot of risk with coming back. Perry Jones probably lost money by not leaving after his freshman year, as he went from a probable top 5 pick to the last pick of the first round (and also lost money by giving Baylor another year of free basketball). Jones might also be relevant in this case for some of the motivations involved in staying. Back then, Jones said he simply wasn't ready to no longer be a college kid, to go from playing around and spending his time with friends his age to playing around and spending time with grown men. Though it's likely not the exact same (Jones was 19), Dunn might not be ready to be done with college, especially with the way the last two seasons have ended.

Regardless of what advice he did or did not get, it seems like a major risk to come back considering his injury history. It's great for PC and great for the conference, but could end up costing him if he gets injured again or if he fails to improve on this past season. He really only can work on 2 things 1) Continue to improve his shooting 2) Cut down on the turnovers. I think the first will be easier than the 2nd. If he fails to do both of those things he's going to get picked apart by GMs. He'll already have the strikes of injuries and age against him going into next year's draft now.

Although they were both right shoulder injuries, they were to different parts of the right shoulder and the 2nd one wasn't a re-injury of the 1st one. Kris got multiple medical opinions on his shoulder and they told him that he should not have any concerns about that shoulder for the rest of his career.

Good for them if it works out, but a risky move nonetheless..

Everybody knows recruiting is huge part of winning in NCAA Basketball. The best thing Providence could do for their recruiting is have Dunn go Lotto. That's a big feather in Cooley's cap when he goes to recruit his next high level guard prospect. He (Dunn) still has a chance to do that but if he doesn't and somehow ends up falling to the second or not get drafted at all, it would be a major fail. And one that opposing coaches will use against them in recruiting..

Something like they had a Lotto pick at guard, coach was selfish and talked the kid into coming back, and look at where he is now? That may or may not have any truth to it but that's what will be said by some of these shady coaches....

As Chelsea Friar has said, one random inside source is critical of Cooley, so everyone decides to run with that one negative tweet. All the decision makers are smart people and know what they're doing, including especially and ultimately Kris and his father.

KD gets another year of work at PC under the tutelage of the legendary God Shammgod. He's already a candidate for National Player of the Year, and he's going to get amazing attention and national headlines for the next 12 months. He'll be the face of the Big East. We'll most likely be ranked. We'll most likely make the NCAA's again. Also, he assures himself of someday watching his jersey being hung in the rafters.

I hope Cooley didn't pressure him to say. I really don't- I've said all along I really like Cooley a lot. I do think he probably used God S. quite a bit in getting him to come back.

It's going to be a real interesting scenario to watch the next year.

All those offering the in depth analysis providing reasons for why this was the wrong decision somehow, usually having to do with the loss of $$, should at least pause and consider that every single point raised, every argument against staying offered, was considered by Dunn and his family in immeasurably more depth and thought then anyone here has provided. Nothing that has been raised as a cautionary note has not been considered by Dunn and his family. Far more hours was spent by Dunn and family considering every single contingency. Including the insurance policy against injury that Dunn now has.
Again and again it is pointed out what a mistake he is making, and why.

And yet....he still chose to return to Providence. After far more thought about the consequences then anyone here has put in. He made this decision for his own good reasons. He knew exactly what he was doing. There isn't a thing mentioned in this thread that wasn't gone over in exhausting detail by the Dunn family. What folks here feel they would do, anyone should do, all that is 100% beside the point. It only applies if you are the one choosing the NBA now, or later. All the reasoning offered applies only to you in the same situation. It has nothing to do with Kris Dunn. He still chose to return to school.

Just shaking my head over how many people know what was said between Cooley and Dunn. DudAnon has gone as far a saying Cooley is lying over what he told Dunn. DudAnon, let me ask you this, have you even heard what Cooley has said he told Dunn? Gotta love the Internet.

#Butler officials opt not to have news conference announcing return of Roosevelt Jones and Kellen Dunham. Stunning.

Poster CornyT posted this on Nova Rivals board after the same convo went down there.

Indeed there were tweets coming out saying the staff was really pushing him hard to stay and telling him he's a borderline 1st rounder. They simply were not true in any regard and we're just trying to make the staff look bad. Here is the truth from a reporter from New London that is very close to the Dunn family.

Gavin Keefe is a Connecticut-based Reporter who has known Dunn since High School

Re: It's official
Gavin Keefe @GavinKeefe ·
Some people tried to pressure Dunn to leave for NBA, according to his father John Seldon. Dunn didn't feel like he was ready.

Gavin Keefe @GavinKeefe · 16m16 minutes ago
Dunn felt it was important to continue to work on his game and earn his degree, according to Seldon.

Gavin Keefe @GavinKeefe · 15m15 minutes ago
Seldon: "Everybody wants (Kris) to grab the money, but he's in no rush. He has a lot of time. He knows the level that he's at."

Dunn family was told that Kris would likely go somewhere between 14 and 24 in the NBA Draft, but some people projected lottery territory
