Living in Lexington, that rivalry (UK/UL) was so much fun. I'm hoping SLU is one of the teams in the new league so we can build a few like that.

I agree when people say rivalry that is what i think of. UK/ UL, MO/KS , NC/Duke then you have in city rivalries like X/cincy USCvUCLA which are always good fun. These are natural rivalries That is what makes this league so exciting. Most of these teams are the top private universities of Tier 1 cities. The cities have built up rivalries in pro-sports and college sports over a century. It seems obvious to me that these games are going to be fun across the board. It is true that when two teams are good and play each other a few times a small rivalry might be established see Indiana State v. UCLA but these won't last. Its the natural rivals that stay with you. Even if every team in the C7 + completely fell apart there would be full arenas (just like UK and UofL football).

"plus x fans still are bitter about not getting in the old midwest conference."

I don't know any X fans who would consider themselves ever bitter, let alone still bitter over that.

That's why I don't think there's much hope for the Louisville vs Marquette series to continue. We were never natural rivals, but just like Pittsburgh with us, the competitiveness just started bringing something extra. So many close ones in that series over a fairly short period, the fans on both sides were getting really nasty. I was at the Gaines bomb game, by the way. Anyways, after we went to the Big East I found myself cheering on our little group of 5 as a 'proof' of CUSA vs old Big East. Makes you start looking at the schools with quite a bit of fondness, even USF  Now I won't even have that, seems like the pieces of my Marquette era (a very short one, admittedly) are all but gone.
