No one wants to drive out to Rosemont. Those folks at the game live nearby. Also, both program are pretty bad. If I still lived in Chicago, I would have stayed at home as well instead of braving the Chicago Winter.

15 miles from the university?

In fairness, DePaul has been bad for a while now and Chicago State (enrollment 7,000 with 5,000 undergrads) is probably behind Northwestern, University of Illinois-Chicago, DePaul, and Loyola among Chicago schools. Small enrollment+poor performance=low attendance. DePaul was just trying to schedule an easy win here. They failed.

Bad, yes.

Of course they are (NY/NJ metro & Chicagoland) those markets are a big part of the reason that they invested so much in the Big East. Anyway those two programs are down from an inability to compete in the Old BE model, the new BE model is already paying benefits for SHU on the recruiting trail. Short-sighted jabs.

DePaul wins the "Battle of Chicago" in a thriller......with no great recruits to save him and key seniors graduating, Purnell should be gone after this year.

Unfortunately he is not going anywhere. Even if he was, I don't trust their AD to find a competent replacement. OP has been getting paid over 2 million the past 4 years and the results were the same as the previous coach.

Maybe they can pick up the Chicago State coach.

I guess a win is a win. Good job DePaul.
This is my opinion. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

How did DePaul get so bad for so long? Whatever happened to Joey Meyers? Why has OP been successful everywhere but DePaul? Was there a lot of fan support in the Meyers (Sr+Jr) time when the teams were good? Can DePaul ever get back? Are they getting a new arena?

Actually he does. He's basically in the same lucky position as Willard. He has a big time transfer sitting out now & a big time JC player coming in next year, both Chicago HS stars & he already has Billy Garrett Sr & Jr.

The DePaul administration has to realize this is not the way to go. They are fast approaching Loyola-Chicago territory, and I'm sure no one wants that. A poor record is one thing, escaping from Chicago State in overtime is something else entirely. I don't want to get too down on DePaul, as a conference mate and as a former rival (hopefully again soon) I hope they do well. It just gets frustrating.

Are you familiar with Chicago? I doubt many students have cars because its so congested around campus and even if they do, driving 15 miles could take at least 45 minutes on a good day. Driving out for the Chicago state game would be waaaaay down on my list of priorities if I was there.
