Holy Land of Hoops Power Rankings - 12/2

Postby butlerway » Mon Dec 02, 2013 11:50 pm

Sorry for the delay, but my vacation to Orlando to cover Butler in the Old Spice Classic delayed these by about half a day. I think we've started to form more definite opinions on most teams after all of the games this week. Still very tough to rank though, and a few unexpected results could certainly shift them in a hurry. League play is going to be so exciting this year.

So, is this DePaul's high mark since joining the Big East?

DePaul had a good season in 06-07 20-14 overall and 9-7 in BE play

First couple of BE seasons 5 wins, 9 wins, 6 wins. After that the wheels came off the bus.

Fun Fact: DePaul has won an NCAA game since 2000. St. john's and providence have not.

1. Villanova
10. Seton Hall

#2-9 is a cluster.

There is no way Creighton should not be at number two after losing two back to back games. For the same reason any team will drop in the AP top 25 if they lose- if you lose it doesn't matter if the people below you have better wins, you lost (two in a row).

First post. I have been reading this site for about a year now and really enjoy it.

Anyway. I am a St. John's fan and there is no way they are finishing 8th in this league. I almost feel like Lavinwood is brainwashing everyone (lol)!!! They have been inconsistent but they have won the games they are supposed to except Penn St. This team will gel and be real tough to play. The rotation and units are starting to come together. I love the lineup of Jordan, Harrison, Pointer, Sampson and Obekpa. Those five will get the majority of minutes moving forward. I expect them to beat Fordham and struggle with Syracuse's zone, but after that I really think people will look back and say how underrated st johns was.

I think the Fordham game is a real trap type game for St John's. I'd guess it's Fordham's super bowl. Also, it's right before the ooc game for St John's vs Syracuse.

Absolutely. There will be a large Fordham crowd there on a Saturday, so I expect it to be a neutral court type game. They have a lot of young guards which are very good. If St. John's plays well they win this game, but Fordham has upset them before. Also the Fordham coach, Pecora, owned them when he was at Hofstra. It is no secret he wanted the job when Lavin was hired, and I believe he loves this stage in NYC. It is s definite trap game. The last tourney team for St. Johns blew a 20pt lead in the second half to Fordham and lost three years ago.

St. John's doesn't deserve to be higher, but they are the "off the radar" BE team that I think could surprise people in conference play if they can gel. Don't sleep on the Johnnies. Or they could go like 4-14 and I wouldn't be that surprised either.
