If we get one of the Big Ten, NBA or NFL Thursday, we will be at the level of ESPN2 easy and I don't think it's too far off saying we get atleast one of those 3.

It's a major if as far as getting Big Ten, NBA. ESPN is a huge favorite to keep the NBA and Big Ten.

NFL with what they're talking about- a half season package- really doesn't help Fox much at all compared to the other 2. 8 Thursday night games(which are typically not the best games at all, see last night with Indianapolis/Tennessee)- isn't going to help in the volume war at all. They're not from what they said going to just totally abandoning the NFL network.

There's been a pretty big push back already with the Big 12/Pac 12 in regards to games getting put on FS1. They don't like it. It's fine for their 2nd/3rd tier games- but they don't want FS1 for the major top tier games. They do not view FS1 as being a big boy yet and don't want their top games stuck on FS1.

As good as the 2.1 million was- it was dwarfed by the Stanford/Oregon game which drew the 3rd best rating of the year for cable with 5.7 million viewers. That's what concerns Big 12 and Pac 12.

In all fairness, Stanford/Oregon was a much better game - two top 10 teams, one of which was #2 in the country.

Where did you get those stats?

True, but it also started at 9pm et. so didn't end until after midnight on the east.

Also- another point about FS1. If they do get Big Ten or NBA basketball- what is going to happen?

Let's say they steal the Turner NBA package(to me, the most likely thing that they will get)... what is that? Primarily dh on Tuesday/Thursdays. ESPN has Wed/Fri games.

Are they going to stop doing as much UFC? I don't think so at all. I think that's a mistake, but I don't think they feel like that at all.

Where would we fit in with a FS1 airing NBA basketball? Are we looking at like then only 2-3 weeknight games and then some on the weekends as well? With other games on FS2? That's not all that great. Remember, the Pac 12 has to get theirs as well. So it's kind of an odd position we are in, the network needs more programming to frankly survive long term, but if they get it, we are going to be hurt with fewer games on the main channel.

Sharing FS1 with the NBA i think would be a good thing for eyeballs, exposure, and for having a connection with them.

I agree; I don't think getting the NBA helps us at all.

I'd like FS1 to get the NFL because that will increase awareness of the channel's existence (and where it is found on the cable dial). Even if the games are crappy, NFL is a juggernaut.

I think it's an interesting thought about the NFL. The thing is- FS1 really needs the volume as much as they need the spark. That's why getting the NBA to me is the most important thing for Fox- they get like 100+ regular season games and then a lot of playoff games.

As far as the synergy we would get- it would happen- but we wouldn't be getting 65 conference games on FS1 like we are this year. We just won't. Remember for one- CBSSN can air 10 more conference games than they have this year. FS2 would become a lot more of a factor. Don't think for a lot of folks either one of those are great options.
