Big East Suggestions for V-Ack, Fall 2013...

Postby billyjack » Thu Oct 10, 2013 4:35 pm

Hey Guys,
Been thinking (which is dangerous)--
We should start a thread that acts as a suggestion box here at the Holy Land of Hoops (HLoH). Then, thumbtacked on the top of the main page could be a master suggestion box thread with items that we've approved thru polls.

Since I consider this to be the premier Big East fan site on the web, the HLoH Admins can maybe have a point-of-contact (POC) within the Big East offices. Then, say, once a month the HLoH admins can email the BE POC with any good approved suggestions (HLoH admins have final say). Maybe as a first suggestion to V-Ack, we can ask that she designate the Holy Land of Hoops as the "Official Big East Fan Website and Message Board".

Suggestions could involve things beyond main responsibilities for Val Ackerman (V-Ack) and John Paquette (J-Pack). Maybe they'd consider moving forward with them in some way, or could at least give us permission to use league graphics, trademarks, etc.

Things such as:
- marketing ideas, like logos, slogans, advertisements, partnerships with youth basketball leagues, fantasy sports on-line;
- scheduling recommendations;
- a fan-supported yearbook (HLoH could have permission to use Big East logos and so forth in a partnership with the league offices);
- apparel design;
- charity recommendations;

Anyway, we have a ton of great minds on this site, so we should brainstorm, because it would be cool to take an active part in promoting the conference. Also, promoting th

As a quick follow up:

My first two suggestions:

1. Ask Val Ackerman to name the Holy Land of Hoops as the "Official Big East Website and Message Board".

2. Suggest the Big East sponsor youth basketball leagues in our cities by partnering with existing town leagues. For example, my sons' Little League was able to use t-shirts with MLB logos on them. It's a great way to promote MLB teams by providing a familiarity with the teams (it wasn't limited to the Red Sox, Yanks, Mets and eastern teams). I imagine Major League Baseball provided permission and maybe some assistance in getting MLB teams on the shirts. So maybe the Big East can provide youth leagues with the same, so that kids can be in their youth league with "Marquette" (also, say, sponsored by Ace Hardware) playing "DePaul" (sponsored by "Rocky's Auto Body" or whatever), etc...

All for now...!

It would be proactive for the league to have some way to communicate ideas but I think that might be a way off. I say they just name this board "Official message board of the Big East" until someone says to stop.

1. Promotions (e.g., hotel arrangements, etc.) to make sure that the Garden is full for the tourney

2. Do not fall for the hype of adding VCU
3. Get Gtown's shuttle bus to games up and running again

BillyJack,

Your second suggestion is really cool. Proper respect given.
Big East Basketball is what it's always been. Great competition nightly.
If the Atlantic 10 didn't suck, why is everyone looking for the exits?
There is a reason why the A-10 left a team in the Central Time Zone...SLU, your move.

Ask and you shall receive

Georgetown has relaunched the Shuttle bus service on a trial basis.

My suggestion would be for them to air some of the BE fall sports especially Soccer on Fox Sports 1 or 2.

Fox Soccer used to air a college soccer game or 2 every friday evening. It would be great if they aired a BE soccer game every Friday evening. I'm sure BE fans would watch BE Soccer, Baseball, Lacrosse, etc.

With the Big East about to be shown all the time on FS1, I sure hope the Big East office has thought about doing promotional commercials during the games. You would think that would be the case, but with the website and all, it wouldn't surprise me if they didn't.

I'm watching Georgetown vs. Marquette women's soccer on Marquette's website and the announcers said that the BE Championship game for women's soccer will air on Fox Sports 1
