The Division I Men's Basketball Committee is conducting its selection orientation meeting this week in Indy in preparations for the Bracket Preview Show, which airs at 12:30 p.m. ET Saturday on CBS.
80 of the 96 teams (83.3 percent) that were part of the Bracket Preview Shows remained among the top four seeds when the actual bracket was announced on Selection Sunday.
Of the 16 teams that did not remain on the top four lines on Selection Sunday, nine were a No. 4 seed on the Bracket Preview Show. Only one No. 2 seeds fell off the top four lines, while six No. 3 seeds failed to stay a top four seed.
In 2017, 2022 and 2023, 15 of the 16 teams revealed during the Bracket Preview Show remained in the top 16 on Selection Sunday. In 2018, 13 of the 16 teams remained the same, while 11 teams stayed the same in 2019 and 2021.
In each of the first 5 years of the Bracket Preview Show (removing the 2020 program because of the tournament being cancelled), 3 of the 4 No. 1 seeds all remained on the 1 line. In 2023, all four No. 1 seeds from the Bracket Preview Show were also 1 seeds on Selection Sunday.
In summary, 24 of 24 No. 1 seeds stayed in the top 16, while 23 of 24 No. 2 seeds, 18 of 24 No. 3 seeds, and 15 of 24 No. 4 seeds remained among the top 16 teams on Selection Sunday.
