Volleyball, Conference Standings

Postby JayPak » Sun Oct 06, 2013 11:19 pm

Since, amazingly, the conference standings are nowhere to be found on the BigEast.org website, here they are, after games of 10/06.

1. Marquette, 3-0, 10-4, 14 in RPI
2. Xavier, 3-1, 10-7, 77
3. Butler, 3-1, 15-3, 38
4. Villanova, 2-1, 10-6, 83
5. Creighton, 1-1, 10-4, 12
6. DePaul, 1-2, 14-2, 129
7. St. John's, 1-2, 12-7, 153
8. Seton Hall, 0-3, 5-9, 142
9. Georgetown, 0-3, 6-10, 171
NR. Providence, 2-1 in America East Conference, 9-10, 297

Note: I used head-to-head as the first tiebreaker and RPI as the second tiebreaker. I have no idea if this is the official tie-breaking procedure since, unsurprisingly, I can't find it listed on the conference website. RPI source used is the unmodified RPI from http://ohiomcginn.dyndns-at-home.com/ncaastats/volleyball-rpi.cgi#. Since the official NCAA RPI was released on October 7, I will begin using it with next week's update.
"When you lose a program like Creighton, there's no sugarcoating it," Valley Commissioner Doug Elgin said. "It's a devastating loss. They're going to go on and have success in the league they've joined." Yahoo Sports, October 10, 2013.

By the way in my post I updated the announced NCAA numbers

If the conference goes to 12 adding St Louis (178) and Richmond (no team) we will likely stay at 10 and add St Louis as a Creighton Travel partner...

If the conference goes to 12 adding WSU (45) and VCU (38) we would be at 11 and extremely unbalanced West versus East but we would be one kick ass conference in Volleyball.

West
Creighton 10
Marquette 15
Butler 42
WSU 45
Xavier 79
DePaul 130

East
VCU 38
Villanova 91
Seton Hall 138
St Johns 156
Georgetown 177
Providence 293
