Selection Sunday discussion

Postby admin » Sun Mar 13, 2022 9:58 am

Just wanted to have a separate thread for discussion following the release of the bracket this evening. Big East looks to be guaranteed six NCAA bids, but seems unlikely at this moment that Xavier becomes the seventh. It could still happen, but I think it's probably a 30% chance.

Villanova will be a 2 or 3 seed. I think PC gets a 4, UCONN a 5, and Hall, Creighton, Marquette all end up on the 8/9 line.

As always, if you are a true Big East fan, you will support all of the teams who are dancing regardless of your personal bias, jealousy, or general dislike of any team, coach, or fanbase.

I hope we can get a couple of teams to the sweet 16. I dont think we have any elite teams this year but all very good teams.

gonna be interesting with Nova and Providence where they're seeded- think Nova has a decent shot to be a 2 seed. I think there is a shot that Providence is a 5 seed.

I still think Xavier's resume is favorable to other teams on the cut line. If the committee doesn't consider how they finished the season (as they're not supposed to) then I think the Muskies are Dayton-bound.

Really hoping for favorable matchups for the Big East. Excited to root for 6 or 7 Big East teams to go as far as possible. It’s a bummer my Johnnies won’t be in the field but good luck to everyone. I feel like this is a year we can make a strong statement that our conference is more than just Villanova.

The 3 obviously that I'm looking for are Nova, Providence, and UConn. Hope those 3 get favorable matchups. Realistically know what the other 3 locks are going to see being in that pit of misery. Will be interesting to see if Xavier makes it- feels unlikely but we've been surprised before.

And hope St John's makes the NIT.

Thanks Stever. Hoping my Johnnies get a bid too but I have a feeling they’ll miss out….

I agree, the annoying byproduct is the 8/9 line is way worse than the 10/11 line. Sure R1 may be a little easier but there's a huge gape between Zaga vs Tenn or Auburn as the R2 matchup. If Rutgers sneaks their way out Dayton, I bet they'd have an easier path forward than SH

The NIT bracketology I saw(yes, there is such a thing) had them literally as the last team in.

Oh for sure. And totally agree with you about Rutgers vs Seton Hall.
