The Friar win in 1991... can i complain about the refs 31 years later? Holy cow.

In that game you can see the great Eric Murdoch, a young Dickey Simpkins #42, a young assistant Fran Fraschilla on Rick Barnes's bench, and absolute legend Rollie Massimino coaching up a storm. Nova won 2 BET games to clinch an NCAA bid at 16-14 (7-9).

The Friars just missed out (1-point loss to Holy Cross was a killa), settled for a NIT final-8 run.

March 1991, all teams had Old Glory patches due to the first Gulf War Desert Storm having begun on Jan 15th of that year.

Great point on 1991 with the Old Glory Patches..

For those that have ESPN+, they did a E:60 on the Whitney Houston Anthem on Friday(which was the 10 year anniversary of her death). It was absolutely incredible. Still think it's the best anthem I have ever heard.

The patches were memorable in 91 because one Big East player at Seton Hall, Marco Lukar, who was actually an Italian, chose not to wear a patch, for consciencious objector reasons (Italy did take part in Desert Storm, possibly their first action since WW2).

Anyway, he was really badly harrassed at games, to the point where he left school altogether and returned to Italy. Maybe some Pirates fans can fill in some details. I think PC students were especially rough with him.

This is mostly by memory so i might have sime details hosed up.

I thought the infamous Wragge game was the 2nd game that season. I guess the scars from that game still burns too deep to remember this one.
