We're way too high. Us Nova UConn and Butler have terrible unoriginal nicknames.

Warriors was awesome and unique and while the mascot was terrible they could've changed it to a spartan, a Celtic warrior, a Roman warrior, English knight etc etc. Gold was horrific and the mascot was even worse. Hilltoppers (reference to WI German heritage) and Golden Avalanche were also former nicknames of ours you didn't mention.

DePaul's name is legit and unique for a catholic school and has a cool origin story IMO.

I have never heard about the mascot guy getting a scholarship and kind of doubt that.. until the dental student a few years ago who took our new Billy to the next level, the people wearing it were lame.

What is interesting is that we use “bluejays” one word instead of two “blue jays”. I believe Creighton is the only D1 school with this mascot.

And don’t forget that the Toronto Bluejays sued us a few years ago because they thought our logo was too close to theirs. And what’s funny is that during our 1991 College World Series run, we actually wore uniforms with the Toronto logo, maple leaf and all.
Nebraska by birth, Creighton by choice.

Yeah I doubted it too when I first heard about it, but it's true! It's right on their official website! Crazy stuff.

Disrespecting my Hoyas. We're too low, in my completely unbiased and totally legitimate opinion. It's original, it's unique, it's got a kind of fun origin story, etc.

Hoya Saxa means What Rocks. You went with the Hoyas. You're the Whats. You're the Georgetown Whats. Think about that. Your name -- the name that represents your school -- is a question. Let that sink in, then get back to me and tell me with a straight face that that name gets you excited about Georgetown.

I always thought that SJU should have been renamed the Johnnies. A lot of broadcasters use that nickname anyway.

I would have made our mascot an apple which is both red (our main color) and represents NYC (the Big Apple).

Creighton is the only school in D1 with the Bluejay as mascot. I love our mascot, even if we spell it wrong!

I'm beginning to think you just don't like Nova...

I mean if you're gonna knock Pirates for "lack of originality," you kind of have to do the same for Huskies(UConn, Washington, Northern Illinois, Northeastern, Houston Baptist from NCAA D1 alone), no? Also, I get you like dogs but, just like wildcats, there are at least a dozen d1 schools alone that use the name bulldogs. You comment on it, but don't treat it anywhere near the same way between Butler and Nova.

You mention Xavier's motto in your musketeers write up - that would actually be something cool to look at for every school (just a thought for your next one).

Or perhaps university name rather than mascot name - while we do have a few location based names (UConn, Providence, Nova) there are a lot of interesting names here. I'm really more interested in seeing their stories - for example Seton Hall was founded by the nephew of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, which is the reason for her name being put on the school - but rankings are your thing so go for it.

Just a couple thoughts, no worries if you're not interested.
