Yo X-Fans...

What's this sh_t I hear about Steele planning to do a "Run n Shoot" offense, a "Five-out, none under" offense? Xavier as the Jr. Jays?
We already have Creighton Prep, Alabama, and Villanova copying us, we don't need another clone.
Youse guys need to stay true to your esteemed history/legacy of pounding da paint U.

Articles from The Athletic and WCPO allude that changes are afoot.

Like most programs, practices have been limited because of the pandemic. Steele has compensated by using more preseason film than in years past. Players have watched clips of teams such as Alabama, which led all power conference teams in tempo last season, and Big East rival Creighton. They’ve also studied sets from the Boston Celtics and Toronto Raptors and even from European pro teams.

Bishop will play some 5 as well as some PF this year. Not sure what to expect out of Epperson but word is that Freshmen Ryan Kalkbrenner has impressed. Coach Mac compared him to Robin Lopez and Goodman has heard good things about him.

Out of pure necessity. The roster almost demands it.

Scruggs, Tandy, Johnson, Odom, Wilcher, Jones. With this abundance of quality backcourt talent you are going to see a completely different look out of us, one way or another. I've even heard that Steele may go "full on Nova" and play 4 guards/wings plus Z at times. They all are reported solid shooters from distance, so why not.

I gave a sneak peek earlier in this thread, on the clear option to go big at times also. In other words, expect to see us adapt to any style.

BTW, CJ Wilcher will remind you of Mitch Ballock...sooner than later. :o
Wisdom is what you get 5 seconds after you needed it.

Of course. I like to stay true to form. However, I do think I've taken it down several notches compared to last year at this time.....you notice I have zero bullets in the chamber for Nova this time around.

Hopefully Scruggy and his young guns will back up my current bluster far better than Naj & Q did!

No doubt! They will be a fun team to watch play and develop. Lots of talent. My fear for a team like yours is with the shortened Practice season it's going to take them some time to gel and with youth they will be up and down a bit. On any given night though they could knock off virtually anyone.

Novachap, forever the gentleman of the Nova contingent of HLOH... I could take some pointers from his lead. But I do think this is the closest we're going to get to Chap saying "that he'll believe it when he sees it." Fool me once Xup, shame on me. Fool me twice... j/k Nothing wrong with being an optimist. I hope X is much improved this year. Our collective success is an important part of this conference.

I think a lot of us are hearing bits and pieces about certain players and are starting to get excited. On Nova's side we're hearing that Daniels will step right in for Bey and the team will not miss a beat and that Dixon has the potential to be a game-changer, and will allow JRE to slide to more of a 4 role at times. It sounds on your end like Steele learned his lesson from last year and has tried to evolve X into a more free flowing offensive team with more shooting prowess. You have to be able to shoot and guard multiple positions in today's game. Guys like Scruggs certainly fill that bill. I think Creighton has always been that way, but the difference last year was that they defended much better. Without Jones and Naji that side of the ball might be X's bigger challenge.

Very much looking forward to actually seeing these teams and these players so we can better understand what we have. Let's all pray none of us get Marquette'd with the Covid.

So Gumby, you're thinking that Daniels will start and take on Bey's role? I would be really surprised if that happens. I mean your 4 returning starters are rock solid but surely GQJ would start either Slater or Swider at the 3....they both have paid their dues. Besides, from what I can gather Daniels game has been as a backcourt player. I'm thinking possible 6th man of the year type season for him but if it plays out that way, where does Antoine get his minutes? If he doesn't get some traction early on, he may develop a wondering eye.

You’re showing off your hoops knowledge Xup. Excellent take.

Not sure if Daniels will start, but he’ll be one of the top 5 in minutes played IMO. He may be like Donte D was for us: first off the bench and on the floor in crunch time. He’s a big guard like Moore (6’4”,220) so he’ll be able to play 1-3 without issue.

You’re dead on about Antoine. Right now he’s prob the 4th guard in line (1st world problems I know). I think he’ll be given an opportunity but he isn’t replacing either Moore or Gillespie. If he can defend and put the ball in the basket, JW will find a way to play him. If not your point about a wandering eye is probably on point.
