Upcoming Season - Plans Being Considered

Hey guys....was just curious to see where each of our schools stood with the fall semester....SJU opens up this week with in-person classes and some online classes as well.....the dorms are open and hopefully they can make it through the whole semester......I have friends with kids at Providence and Villanova and I think they are open as well but someone correct me if I’m wrong.....

X is up and running. Similar approach to yours: online and in-class. Just finished their first week. Before that, I believe they all came in for their Manresa Session, which began a week ago last Thursday and concluded on that Sunday.

The logistics of it all it is pretty interesting. As an example, they are utilizing the Cintas Center (I guess it’s conference facilities) as study space.

Zoom, the videoconferencing platform now used by nearly everyone during the age of social distancing, is facing technical difficulties. University of Iowa Drops Four Sports, Citing Impact of COVID-19

Aug. 21, 4:35 p.m. - The University of Iowa announced Friday that it would discontinue four sports teams, citing a nearly $100 million decline in athletics revenue due to the Big Ten Conference's decision to forgo fall competition. As part of a plan to close a deficit of up to $75 million in the 2020-21 fiscal year, Iowa said it would end its varsity programs in men’s gymnastics, men’s and women’s swimming and diving, and men’s tennis after the current academic year.

North Carolina State, La Salle Move Undergraduate Classes Online

Aug. 20, 2:41 p.m. - North Carolina State University announced Thursday that all undergraduate courses this semester will be online.

La Salle University, in Philadelphia, announced a similar move. However, the university will also close residence halls to most students.

UConn Evicts Students Who Held Party Without Social Distancing

Aug. 20, 6:30 a.m. - The University of Connecticut has evicted students who held a packed party in a residence hall without social distancing or face masks, The Hartford Courant reported. The students became known because video of the party was widely circulated. The university said the students were "endangering not only their own health and well-being, but that of others."

UConn dean of students Eleanor Daugherty and residential life director Pamela Schipani said in letter to all students that those who were evicted did not represent the entire student body. “Our residential community has demonstrated an admirable commitment to follow universal precautions and keep our community safe. In doing so, they have made considerable sacrifice. We cannot afford the cost to the public health that is associated with inviting students into a room for a late night party,” they wrote. “The vast majority of our students are doing the right thing -- but every student needs to do the same.”

gtmoBlue – thank you for your invitation, but I’ll respectfully decline. This is an interesting thread, and an interesting set of inter-related topics, but I’ll limit my contributions to what I have already posted.

Every up-coming major decision regarding the 2020-21 college basketball season has multiple and complex legal and contractual ramifications, which are largely beyond the understanding and remit of sports writers, college basketball coaches, players, and most fans. Until those major decisions have been made, the relevant laws have been passed by the States’ Legislations, the relevant rules have been formally adopted by the NCAA, and all contractual matters – at every level – have been agreed, revised as necessary, and signed, there will be no college basketball. As I am unable to detach myself from these legal and contractual ramifications, and I do not wish to impose them on this discussion, I’ll let the rest of you have at it.

It is worth noting that there are hundreds of unclaimed observations about these inter-related topics just floating around in the ether – and waiting for a HLOH poster to take ownership of them and put his name to them. I claimed 12 of these observations as my own and posted them. There are hundreds more readily available.

Plans under consideration

Among the various plans under consideration for the Big East: a 22-team bubble (men’s and women’s programs) in Omaha, Neb.; a split bubble between the eastern and midwestern programs in Hartford, Conn. and Omaha, respectively; perhaps some combination of the two over the course of a season; and possible participation in regional non-conference bubbles. It seems certain that no bubble will last longer than a month; there is no appetite for holing up college athletes for months at a time, like the pros.

5. Observations

5.10 Concerning a Hypothetical Situation, it is not difficult to envisage some Ohio State basketball players attending a student party in January, unknowingly getting exposed to the virus, and testing positive a week later. Further suppose that OSU’s basketball team played two other Big Ten opponents during the week, exposing them to the virus, and those two teams played two other Big Ten teams during the same week. That’s five Big Ten teams wiped out because of one student party in Columbus.

Ohio State University Hands Out 228 Interim Suspensions

Monday August 24, 4:03 p.m. - Ohio State University has issued 228 interim suspensions to students for violating new coronavirus-related safety guidelines, WSYX/WTTE ABC 6 has reported. The university has threatened consequences for students who host gatherings of more than 10 people, where people are not wearing masks or social distancing.

That certainly didn’t take long.

Just a measley BE Community Forum. Taking FF's list and adjusting, modifying, or adding to it, to
have subject matter for our resident expert fanbase to discuss and offer solutions. This is one of the
most diverse and knowledgable FB's I have ever seen.

2 Panels of 7 folks. Together they list, prioritize, parse, and divide the topics. One of the 7 lead the zoomcall.
I post online. that's it. One or two panel discussions per week (Tues & Thurs). If one a week (Weds), panels have time to do background
research prior to their at bat.


...and okay, damnit... it's the Holyland of Hoops BE Community Forum. Happy now?
