Nothing but love for Xavier, but I mean come on, they weren't competing in the Old Big East for 13 out of the last 20 years. Was a lot harder to make the tournament going through that gauntlet every year.

The 05, 12, 13 teams almost certainly would've been curb stomped in the old big east. But that being said X finished 1st or 2nd in the old respectable A10 almost every year and showed up come tournament time and in the non conference. They wouldn't have as many banners to their name but they'd probably have a Somewhat similar number of appearances during that stretch IMO

Nah fellas... Ol' X had it tough enough back in the day. A lot rougher to make the dance as a middie in a middie conference. Any old middle of the pack major in the old BE was "gar-ran-teeed" a bid. Alls youse had to do was finish 7th-11th and youse were in. In like Flint...init to winit...like a rat in a cheese factory. The year y'all had 11 teams make it...2011. Once you get past #5 StJ, things start to get dicey. P6 and EC bias' kick in bigtime. 6-11 would be NIT/CBI candidates were they not in a then P6 conference. Playing the BE circle jerk gained them much respect, while deserving Midmajors got snubbed-as usual. Those gaudy 11-7 to 9-9 conference records...Wow! Gtwn was preseason 3rd, Nova 2nd in the BEast, they finished 8th and 10th - definitely "Deserving of a NCAA bid".

2011 Big East Men's Basketball Tournament seeds
Seed School Conf. Over. Tiebreaker[3]
1. ‡†Pittsburgh 15–3 27–4
2. †Notre Dame 14–4 25–5
3. †Louisville 12–6 23–8 2–0 vs. SYR/SJU
4. †Syracuse 12–6 25–6 1–1 vs. LOU/SJU
5. #St. John's 12–6 20–10 0–2 vs. LOU/SYR
6. #West Virginia 11–7 20–10 1–0 vs. CIN
7. #Cincinnati 11–7 24–7 0–1 vs. WVU
8. #Georgetown 10–8 21–9
9. Connecticut 9–9 21–9 2–1 vs. VILL/MARQ
10. Villanova 9–9 21–10 1–1 vs. CONN/MARQ
11. Marquette 9–9 18–13 1–2 vs. CONN/VILL
12. Seton Hall 7–11 13–17
13. Rutgers 5–13 14–16
14. Providence 4–14 15–16
15. South Florida 3–15 9–23
16. DePaul 1–17 7–23
‡ – Big East regular season champions, and tournament No. 1 seed.
† – Received a double-bye in the conference tournament.
# – Received a single-bye in the conference tournament.
Overall records are as of the end of the regular season.

Bracket

Of the record 11 teams, only 2 would make the SS: Marquette and eventual Champion UConn. Preseason favs Pitt (1), Nova (2), S'cuse (3), & Gtwn (4) flamed out. Nova & Gtwn in 1st Round, with Pitt & S'cuse in the 2nd Round. And ol' UCOnn 21-9/9-9 caught lightning in a bottle and made a run to both the BET and NCAA titles. Once in a lifetime occurrence. If the normal spiel of "well, our 9th place team won the NCAA's...indicative of how good the conf was that year..." If you replayed the dance 10 times, none would have advanced to the 2nd weekend. Power conf, my ass.

Oh, and X (24-8/15-1) was there too. #6 X upset in 1st Round by #11 Marquette. A-10 had 4 teams (X, Temple, Richmond, and Dayton) in the dance.
Mac's 1st season...lil Cr8n was in the lowly CBI (18-13/10-8, 23-16 overall season). If Cr8n had been BE that year we'd have made the dance!!!

2010-11 vs P5/P6 conferences:

Big East = 32-19. 63% winning %
MVC = 11-25. 31% winning %

Wich St. 6-1; the rest of the MVC went 5-24. 20 games on H or neutral court; 16 away.

Had Creighton been in the BE they would have been bottom 3-4 IMO.

For perspective, X was pretty good that year. 15-1 in the A10. They lost to Cincy (7th place BE team) by 20 and Marq (9th place) by 11. They did beat SHU, who finished in 12th by 5 on a neutral court.

On the flip side, X and PITT went at it - possibly in back to back years - with X coming out on top in 2010:

Pitt was the epitome of March Sadness. They had some really good teams but often wilted when it counted most. Was never a fan of their style of play. Ugly basketball.

Also lost to 5th place MU that year and took double OT to beat NIT bound Cinci.

Yup, pretty grim. Between those 2 years, SHU has only finished tied for 3rd in the Big East every time and never missed an NCAA Tournament. Is the lack of a sweet 16 appearance disappointing? Sure. And high school recruiting rankings are overrated - SHU consistently has players outperforming their rankings. But if 2 conference championships (1 tourney 1 rs) not missing an NCAA Tournament since 2015 is "grim," well then ouch for pretty much everyone other than Nova.

To be fair, you guys got screwed/unlucky matching up with Kansas in the Round of 32. Azubuike was literally the only guy who could match up with Delgado. I thought you guys were good enough to make a Final Four with a more favorable match-up/draw.
