Have to figure an inevitable Mullin-like separation is on the horizon (possibly next year). This is the danger in hiring an alum with zero NCAA coaching experience (see Hardaway and Stackhouse additionally): you really taint a proud alumnus.

An interesting "fit" a year from now might very well be Shaka. Others to consider, IMO, would be Dawkins and Amaker.

In any event, the Hoyas have been down too long.

Ewing needs to go. I'd be very surprised if he's still the coach this time next year.

I think there could be a case made that were it not for the Covid situation, Ewing would be gone from Georgetown by now even.

I'm not sure that he is an NBA player. A bit of hyperbole in this report?

Georgetown guard Mac McClung is entering the transfer portal, an unexpected move that will make him the most high-demand transfer in the nation.

McClung, the Hoyas' leading scorer in 2019-20 and a likely preseason All-American, informed Georgetown of his plans on Wednesday after pulling his name out of the NBA draft to maintain his NCAA eligibility.

After three years? I'm not so sure on that one. There was immense political pressure to move on from JTIII, especially with JT pulling strings behind the scenes. Cutting ties after only three years, when Ewing clearly overachieved given his talent restrictions, would have been met, internally, with a lot of bad and unnecessary PR. I think he was always guaranteed at least four years, unless there was a massive scandal (which showed he was at fault).

Like I said, I predict a Mullin-type separation after next season, where the two parties mutually part ways - saving face and a lot of headaches for a proud and distinguished alum.

Between Clyde Drexler, Chris Mullin, Jerry Stackhouse, Penny Hardaway, Mike Dunleavy, Avery Johnson, Terry Porter, Mark Price, among others that provide significant data, why would any school or AD willingly hire a former NBA player with little-to-no college coaching/recruiting experience? Absolutely dumbfounding.

I think it would have been similar to Mullin if this had ended normally this season..... the end of this year for Georgetown was even worse than Mullin last year with St John's.

We'll never know.

Possibly, but I don't think he'd be gone yet. 4 years for an alumni of his status should be the benchmark, similar to Mullin. Give him a full cycle.

That said, his seat would definitely be a lot hotter.

It's not Ewing or the coaching staff - public info and murmurs around the program from those in the know suggest that there is much more going on behind the scenes. GU has historically been very tight-lipped about letting information leak from the program, and in this day and age where real journalism doesn't aim to discover the truth it has really hurt perception. Even much of the Hoya fan base has been irresponsibly speculating without enough info and has in turn done harm to our perception. When "Hoya fans" are saying the sky is falling, it begs some credibility but the reality is 98-99% of Hoya fans still have absolutely no clue what is actually going on. A lot of Hoya fans think they're the smartest people in the room so they developed their theories and what not, but the fact of the matter is 99% of the chatter you hear is all speculative. Not even informed speculation.

That said, take my thoughts for what they're worth but I have know several players/coaches in and around the program over the last 15 years and attend a handful of games on the floor each of the past handful of seasons. I am still in contact with current players and some former. One big thing is the administration almost seems to resent the oversized (in their minds) presence of sports on an elite academic campus and obviously basketball is the big target. It has created an adversarial relationship on campus towards athletes (hence why Alexander/Gardner eventually left) and has put limits, reasonable and otherwise, on the discretion Ewing and his staff have in handling expectations for his student athletes. That's a take I offer without many specific examples, but it basically has to do with the administration not fully supporting the basketball program and maybe being involved in some instances where most other programs would defer to the coaching staff.
