Some are expressing optimism that once JLP is gone, everything will be fine and men's basketball can finally take the next step. Rumors are swirling that JLP will even be leaving by this summer. However, if anyone (including DePaul fans) believe she will be fully removed from the program are kidding themselves. JLP has been a part of DePaul for 45 years (only 19 as AD). She is firmly entrenched within the school far beyond athletics (not unlike JT from Georgetown, except - you know - he was an elite name in men's basketball). There is no way DePaul's next AD comes from outside the school (it will be an internal candidate, likely still from within her inner circle). She might not be AD-in-name much longer, but she will still have significant influence over the AD. Her friends/relatives/family members will still likely be retained within the AD. Is that change? Hardly.

I think Jeanne will have a say over who the next AD is. And she probably should have input, for a number of reasons.

There's no one on staff currently at DePaul who's remotely qualified to become the AD. The next AD will come from outside the department.

I struggle to come up with an AD that has failed three hires of an athletic department's top revenue sport and not even be on the hot seat.

I don't know what to say to you if you don't think Jeanne's on the hot seat.

One cannot both be on the hot seat while also having significant say into who their replacement will be. Can't have it both ways. If you are about to be fired, you cannot dictate to management who gets to replace you.

Who said anything about dictating?

I said she'll have a voice - not the final word.

Despite the view from the outside, within the department, JLP is a very popular figure. If she's not treated with a certain amount of respect, there will be a lot of unhappy people.

Which correlates perfectly with why DePaul has zero NCAA Tournament appearances under her leadership. You can't run a D1 athletics department, or any organization, like a family business.

DePaul should be taking notes from the Bulls this week. They totally and completely cleaned house from Paxson, Forman and, likely, Boylen. They ran the team like a family business for decades, which led to them bottoming out.

The sad reality is that JLP was and is never held accountable for the failures she oversaw in the men's basketball program. It doesn't matter if she's admired and/or respected internally - she failed at the most important responsibility of her job and the highest priority within our conference.

Regardless, the fact she will have any say shows and reveals DePaul has a serious issue rooted much deeper than JLP.

When will the conference members say something to them? Not that we would ever know a conversation like that takes place.

How does a “management team“ commit to a major capital investment, such as DePaul’s new facility, while failing to address the failures of the individual in the critical AD position? It simply makes no sense.

If you have to have, say, five things go right in order to create and maintain a successful college basketball program, then you cannot ignore the leadership thing as one of those things. Overall, with all the evidence in the world there for the taking, it is rather amazing that this has been allowed to go on this long.

Loyalty is one thing. Ineptitude and failure to make change is another.

Jalen Coleman-Lands, will no longer be a member of the Blue Demons next season. Coleman-Lands, who averaged 11.1 points per game this past season, will complete his sixth and final year of eligibility at another program.

It has not been a great couple of weeks.

I won't even bring up losing out on a D2 transfer to an MVC school.

Hoping this is very much a "things look darkest before the dawn" kind of deal.
