I don't dispute any of UConn's accomplishments. Hell (if that word's allowed), they're a super basketball team.

If they're in play, the Dumpster Fire won't lose another team.
Big East Basketball is what it's always been. Great competition nightly.
If the Atlantic 10 didn't suck, why is everyone looking for the exits?
There is a reason why the A-10 left a team in the Central Time Zone...SLU, your move.

If there was a HOF thread around here somewhere I would put the last two posts in there...all who disagree shall bear the mark of M (mid-major) on their crown for the entirety of conference play so we shall remember who ye are.

I would be all for adding Cincy & UConn...but I thought the idea was to stick to privates? To keep the media out of internal business was one of the keys? I know its not every really mentioned, but just seems that way.

If you start adding public's with football, in 5 years they will beg to add more football and then the new Big East becomes the old Big East with all the same problems without Syracuse, Pitt, BC, WV, Louisville.

I kind of just sold myself on staying with no football schools.

If you're saying that we should not invite any football schools, then I agree with you.

Probability-wise, there a solid chance this will happen. At a minimum, we'll be in the top 3 along with the Big Ten and the ACC. In my opinion, we are already in the Top 3.

At a minimum, other goals for us as a conference I think should realistically be:
- to get 3 teams in the Final Four again like in 1985.

I'm not against being positive, but your outlook is past even a positive outlook. History of the last couple of decades suggests we'd typically be around #5 for a conference, never really pushing for the top spot. We're starting from behind and aren't the only conference trying to be good. There's a lot to prove and improve before talking about being in the conversation for top conference.

This last goal is anything but realistic, for any conference. That's just a special occurrence if it happens.

But here's the thing --> the work we're doing landing 2014 recruits will pay off in a couple of years. We as a conference won't even reap those rewards for a couple of years. So not only do we have great teams coming out of the gate this year, but all of us are in excellent shape going forward.

And many of the Big East recruits are 4-stars, so they're talented enough to have a college impact, but won't be one-and-dones... and the talent is being spread across our conference, not just with one or two teams like the SEC or Big 12, so we'll have a handful of teams that can make a deep NCAA run.

er, ok. nice analogy. i think maybe the prodigal son would be a more appropriate parable for a Catholic based league.

Add UConn.

I'd guess UConn needs to give us 10 or so Our Fathers, a half dozen Hail Marys, and several Act of Contritions. And toss a little something in the poor box. And don't forget bringing something on bingo night and to St Rocco's Feast. And come to think of it, the rock salt has torn up the steps, maybe they could do something about that too, you know? I'm not saying, i'm just saying. That might get them in the appointment book.

Have you ever seen the show 'Baggage' on GSN? UConn looks great (I mean REALLY great), even the first two cases full of problems are tolerable - until she opens that last case...just one word 'Football'. The crowd groans and we send her home.

I wish I knew how to get a screenshot- just had an ad at the bottom of the page to buy Uconn football tickets. Priceless.

Can someone explain to me the worst case scenario for adding UCONN?

To me it sounds like they might leave in a few years (and probably have to pay a penalty.)

Or other are proposing it would cause a snowball effect of adding more football schools similar to before. In which case, the Big East was the premier basketball conference for 10-20 years. I will take that scenario as well.

I'm not sure Uconn wants to join the Big East. I'd be fine with them for hoops - men's and women's - but that is all. I suspect the Big East presidents like the shroud of secrecy they have being all private and adding a public forces Freedom of Information into the equation.
