Start with Zach Hankins from Xavier.

He's the 1st one of guys mentioned here that was a grad transfer.

Stever has a point. These guys are transfers, not grad transfers. The difference is having that year to sit and learn the system and the culture. So a guy like Eric Pascall and a guy like Joe Cremo are completely different circumstances. We expect Daniels to be a big contributor for us next year as he is spending an entire year learning how JW wants him to play. Huge advantage IMO.

Bryce Moore from Western Michigan has also worked out fairly well for the role expected of him (7th/8th man for 3-and-D). Jason Carter has usually been doing the right things for the team but has been just struggling at times to hit the open shots that he could hit at Ohio; that should improve. Kerem Kanter from Green Bay was an incredibly important player for a 1 seed.

A lot of it has to do with expectations and needs too. Ryan Welage and Kyle Castlin weren't that great last year, but Xavier simply needed competent D1 bodies.

Yeah, why I'm always so pessimistic about grad transfers from smaller schools. Just think of the 3 we've seen here with Big East in the last 2 years-
last year Chartouny with Marquette, Cremo with Villanova
this year Pipkens with Providence

not saying they're automatically awful, but there are people that think that they're automatically going to click. I'd be really interested to see the stats of just how many of these guys actually work.

Mo Watson from Boston University did work pretty well for Creighton.

Exactly. I thought Pipkins could play like Mo Watson. Undersized, but quick, a sparkplug, great ball-handler, can run the team effectively, makes great decisions.

I hope Stever's right cuz it would make me feel better about Bynum for our next 3 years. I guess Strus us another success story with his 2 years at DePaul... maybe sitting a year and learning the system is a big difference maker?

And yeah, Hankins was great as a 5th.

and I'm not just focusing on Big East....

I'm seeing others who are struggling outside the Big East. One guy went from St Joe's to Louisville. Last year he turned the ball over 14% of the time. This year it's 24.9% and in conference play 28%.

I think like Gumby said that sit out year makes a huge difference. Not just learing the system, but also with a lot of times just getting stronger in the weight room etc.

Ok, based in your examples and the comments from others in this thread, i'm seeing the trendlines and feeling better about Jared Bynum next year. Whew.

Lol, yeah, every 5th game he goes unconscious over a 7 minute span and drills everything. We've played 25 games-- he's torched 5 opponents... Sacred Heart, Texas, DePaul, maybe St John's at the Dunk, Butler.

Last year and two years ago he did it against the Friars, absolutely crushed us with sucky losses vs UMass.

I feel bad for DePaul especially cuz they were playing great and were positioning themselves to win the game, then in like a 4 minute span this guy drills something like 5 ridiculous threes out of the blue. The loss seriously killed DePaul's mojo.

Nice wins for Nova, Butler, Johnnies, and the Jays. Nice to get most of our scores on the front page (Top 25). Go Big East!

Roll Damn Jays! Ol' git is expecting another Christmas in March... ;)
