Coach K Whines About State Of College Basketball...

Coach K with his regular whiny rantings about the state of college hoops, whining about college players going pro early, whining about how he thinks there are no great teams this year... plus some other gibberish that i can't understand.

I you peel away his blatherings and search for the truth, i think he's sad cuz the ACC is projected to get only 3 or 4 teams in the NCAA's, even though they have 76 teams in their conference.

Coach K's master plan of destroying the Big East has turned out to be a complete failure. And that makes him sad. And now he's stuck playing in front of small crowds in snoozeville at Boston College and Pitt, and the half filled Carrier Dome.

The guy is a complete douche.

Not a huge Coach K guy but Considering how many of us loved the old 16 team Big East is it really fair to pick fun at the ACC for how many teams they have?

Just funny that in having 15 teams, their potential 3 or 4 bids gets them only 20% or 26% of their teams in the tourney.

Not arguing, but how many times did the 16 team old Big East get only 3 or 4 teams in the dance?

In all seriousness, I don't ever see a team like Duke disappearing, but it will be very interesting to see what the program is going to look like under their next coach.

Coach K is very short-tempered this year. Between this and him yelling at his own students, it really is no surprise to see him struggle to hide his frustrations. He was always against one-and-done players, and critical of Calipari, in building a sustainable program that can compete for national championships, and look what Duke has now become. Starting with Kyrie, he began accumulating and building around one-and-dones (Jabari, Okafor, Tyus Jones, Winslow, Ingram, Tatum, Giles, Jackson, Bagley, Carter, Duval, Trent, Barrett, Reddish and Zion). Quite the change in philosophy in under a decade.

Make no mistake, he is one of the all time great head coaches. However, I get the sense that he feels he somewhat sold a little bit of his soul in moving towards the Calipari route, having a brand new team each year, flooded with freshmen, and attempting to build a national championship-level team with the one-year guys he has. He built his legacy on four-year guys like Laettner, G. Hill, B. Hurley, Battier, Brand, Langdon, Scheyer, etc. When Corey Maggette left Duke early, it was considered a shock, since everyone usually stayed four years. Now, Coach K of all coaches routinely has a new squad composed of freshmen year-in and year-out now (very unlike the Coach K I knew growing up).

There is an elite-level tier within college basketball where kids are only there to go straight to the NBA the following year. While it is within the rules of the NCAA/NBA, it definitely questions the spirit of what college basketball was about for decades leading up to the one-and-done era. For the benefit of this elite-level athletes, college programs and the NBA, it would be in the best interest to remove the one-and-done rule, and transition to HS eligible players being drafted (and stashed in the growing G-League), and have players that choose to go to college not be eligible to be drafted until after the sophomore or junior year of college. I would also be in favor of a one-time immediate transfer eligibility.

In a surprise meeting with the Cameron Crazies, Duke basketball's infamously raucous student section, coach Mike Krzyzewski said that the death of Kobe Bryant was weighing on his mind leading up to his viral outburst toward fans in Wednesday's game against Pitt. Broadcast cameras caught Coach K chewing out his own team's student section at the end of the first half.
The 72-year-old coach explained to a group of 40 to 50 students that he was in a "fragile emotional state" because of the death of Lakers legend Kobe Bryant, who he coached to two Olympic gold medals in 2008 and 2012.

Explains away his crappy behavior while slipping in a reminder that he coached the Olympic teams. Can't stand his sanctimonious BS while playing one-and-done just like Coach Cal, who often gets labeled a slimeball.

I mean, I agree he's kinda douchey...but was K a driving force behind dissecting the Big East? I always thought it was ESPN. I mean, yeah, the ACC gets more money now that big east football is out of the picture, and they can try to claim NY and PA eyes, but this is the first I've heard the divorce blamed on him.

I worded my statement incorrectly. Coach K enthusiastically supported the ACC grabbing Big East teams. He was a big cheerleader when it happened.

The Syracuse and Pitt poachings were announced late on a Friday or early on a Saturday, literally within hours of the passing of Dave Gavitt.

That same weekend, instead of honoring Gavitt's memory by giving basic respectful comments and/or shutting TF up like every other ACC coach, m-f'er Coach K crowed about how the ACC tourney would be moved to MSG and the ACC would take over NYC-- completely spitting in the face of Gavitt. F him.

Coach K is like Mr Magoo, except if Mr Magoo was an asshole and a hypocrite [see Calipari comments by another poster above]. And to top it off, he's a disciple of Bobby Knight.

Also of note, sort of... but maybe is a reason for Coach K's dislike of our conference... thru the Sept 2011 announcement that Pitt and Syracuse were being poached, in the previous 10 NCAA matchups between Duke and any Big East team... Duke was 2-8 in those games... going from memory here... but basically from 1997 thru 2011, that's 15 years... Duke won 2 championships and got bounced in 13 tourneys... of those 13 times, 8 of them were from being bounced by a Big East team. That sounds too unbelievable so i may have to double check that...
