At this juncture Kenpom has Howard 4th in NPOY and Powell 5th. Idk what the stats are to choose that and I'm sure if Hall finishes top or 2nd Powell gets the nudge but in advanced stats currently Howard is listed slightly better.

I think it's absolutely Powell's to lose. I think his game is one the coaches like more than Howard's game.

Also remember that Powell picked up injuries VERY early in a couple games which hurt his per-game averages as they factor in a pair of "games played" with next to no line.

Against Stony Brook he finished with a line of 2 rebounds in 4 minutes. Against Rutgers he finished with 6 points, 2 assists, and 3 rebounds in 15 minutes - but was playing concussed for 12 of them.

Which is why I was hoping someone with a KPom subscription could put the pure conference numbers and usage ratings etc.

I don't think it's a statistical decision. Look at how Powell is playing (godlike), and look at where the Hall is in the BE standings. Yeah, maybe things change between now and the BET, but as of right now, it's not close.

I actually feel like Powell's been struggling a bit lately. It really seems like since the concussion he's been missing a lot of shots that he normally makes - his 3pt shot in particular has been off lately. I don't think he can beat Howard in a stat-stuffing competition. That said, even when he's off his game, he always seems to be making the hustle plays and doing the little things necessary to impact the game and help his team win. He always seems to find a way to get his points too.

Well of course look at where Hall is, they managed to beat Maryland without Powell. We couldn't do that with Howard (though ours had less game prep)

But saying "it's not a statistical decision" is a ridiculous statement. You can't say someone is playing godlike and another isn't when player 1 is less efficient, less PPG, roughly the same APG, similar usage, and a couple more RPG against the same competition.

If we're saying it's not a statistical decision I may as well through some walk on into the discussion because they hustled hard for 1 minute in a blowout win.

Nobody's going to look at efficiency if the Hall finishes 14-4 and Marquette is 9-9. Maybe things will change, but in mid-January Powell looks like the better bet. Maybe this should have been a poll?

I don't have a strong opinion about POY, but howard is not even close to being as good as D wade.

You're right that could never happen. There's no precedent for a team with 9-9 getting the big East POY. But if we finish 10-8 or 11-7 Kris Dunn has set that precedent of winning on a 4th place team twice.

We all know everyone on here has been all over Powell despite pretty much all stats pointing even except scoring where Howard is better and team record so a poll outcome is already well known. And last again there's literally zero logic to claiming Powell's playing godlike and Howard isn't. non bias people say Howard as he was Naismith Player this week and has been BE Player of the week 5 times so far.
