I thought these TV contracts were in bubble stage and ripe for bursting? How's aac planning on competing against this long term with their tiny contract?

Fox Sports execs still are planning to make an official bid presentation at SEC HQ in Birmingham next month. But sources say ESPN’s negotiations are in the final stages. ESPN and Fox Sports would not comment.

CBS has carried SEC football since 1996 and network execs were interested in extending. When bidding went well over $300 million per season for 15-17 football games, including the conference championship game, CBS opted to bow out.

The AAC is betting on ESPN.

They didn’t even let it go to open market. The AAC’s strategy is to pick their horse and lock up those windows so they can further nurture the biggest audience possible over a prolonged period.

SBJ had their value around 8 million per in their year end projections last year, and that’s likely a guesstimate for what the contract would’ve brought had they gone to market. However, the revenue component of the deal was only a piece of what Aresco was negotiating for. In their first deal he just wanted to ensure the ESPN windows, so the AAC could cultivate an audience. The new deal more than doubles the number of linear windows.

A big reason they went long term was to hoard those ESPN guaranteed linear windows through all the the conference negotiations in the middle of the 2020s. If they can lock up so many linear windows, they’ll also cap the revenue and exposure potential of everyone that negotiates in the interim. The presence of the F5 networks works in Aresco’s favor.

It's official now.

What is new today is that Boise will be with Fox,FS1 as well. Not sure how big that is now in 2020, it feels like their run is kind of over. But still, doesn't hurt for sure.

1 thing I think is really good is that this could get from what it looks like somewhere between 9-14 football games on FS2, and then between 4-20 basketball games on FS2. Is Fox starting to try to build up FS2 some? If so, I think that's a good thing.

• 16-23 regular-season games.
• Minimum of seven (7) games annually on FOX or FS1.
• Maximum of five (5) Friday windows, not including special dates.
• Rights to all Boise State home games.
• 16-32 regular-season games men's basketball games
• Minimum of 12 basketball games annually on FOX or FS1. All remaining games on FS1 or FS2.

you wonder when it says special dates for the football Friday's- would that include Labor Day Friday or Day after Thanksgiving? Are those special or normal?
