The fact that one of their high profile schools is willing to go football independent to join the Big East tells you everything you need to know about them.

They are far more than a mid-major. Gassaway even said that.... Very similar to the Pac 12...

Are there better and worse scenarios that could play out? Of course, but that doesn't take away from this being an excellent season.

Regular season maybe. But for the whole season? That's March, and what happens in these next 2 months sets that up.

I think even joke conferences have message boards

Yep. The repeated comparisons with the AAC just make it seem like the difference between the conferences is small. It isn't. The only time the comparison made sense was when this iteration of the Big East was brand new. It's been six years. The top of the Big East is better, the middle of the Big East is better, the bottom of the Big East is better. We should be comparing our conference to the ACC, the Big 10, and the Big 12, plain and simple.

Well, Stever went full triggered on the other site. Apparently, he doesn't like it when Big East fans call the AAC mid-major.

Teh salt is real.

In which thread did he post the nonsense? I’m having trouble locating it.

Yeah, just saw the thread. The truth sometimes hurts. The AAC is not only a mid-major, but it’s not even an historically great mid major conference. Conference USA and the Atlantic 10 of the 90s were much better leagues over all. Again, when one of your marquee schools decides to leave and put its football team as an independent just to get out, you’re not a great league.

I've been tracking RPI (and now NET) rankings for a while, and I'm not sure I've ever seen a conference have every single team in the Top 100, which is where the Big East is this morning.

Average NET ranking among major conferences, through games played January 5:

1. BIG EAST 43.9
2. Big 12 46.5
3. Big Ten 47.6
4. Pac 12 67.1
5. SEC 68.3
6. ACC 75.1

Mid-majors of note: AAC 89.7, Atlantic 10 121.5, WCC 122.9, Mountain West 141.0, Missouri Valley 147.0, C-USA 182.6
