No mid major that has a resume that would be left out is of a better quality than the nine teams fighting it out for the next 2.5 months.

I’m not talking about St. Mary’s or Utah State, who’ll likely make it anyway, I’m talking about everyone else. No way any of them play 18 games in this league and sniff .500. But we are supposed to penalize those that are in the league for not getting to that number?

YES. Because you know as well as Kayako and everyone else that: SOS, NET, Quad1 wins, beating ranked teams, whether or not that Midlin Major was on a run the last 10 games, and other factors all play into the comittee's thinking come selection Sunday. Not all Midlin Major teams who are .500 are equal. Many are worse than their record might suggest...and you know that.

the last 10 games stat is meaningless.... They removed that about 8-10 years ago now I think...

one big thing you didn't list was road/neutral site record. that's one thing about this start- everyone(save Providence) has done at least something away from home.... that's huge.

In fact the argument for .500 or better is valid. The comittee will not let just any 18-13 team dance, just to have more B1G-BE-ACCteams in. Making .500 is a valid measuring stick to weed out the marginal Midling Majors - who "deserve" to go to the NIT/CBI/CIT.

Every year top midmajors get screwed out of a dance bid because youse Majors are so damned greedy. 6 BE bids is enough, seven is great. More than that is excessive and will deprive some very good Midmajors a shot to do some damage in the dance.

.500 is such an arbitrary number. But the committee is usually pretty good at determining which under .500 power conference teams deserve it, although seeding usually sucks. Top 5 or 6 "snubs" last season were all P5 schools. NC State had 9-9 ACC record and weren't even listed in the first four out.

Everyone goes 10-8 except PC, who goes 0-18 but wins the BET. That'll give us an unbreakable record

So looking. Last year only 4 teams with losing conference records made the tourney. The year before a record 5 made it....

.500 is a guarantee (unless you're Providence)
8-10 you have a chance....
7-11 only 4 teams ever have been 4 games sub .500 and ever made the tourney at large

I look forward to the 'but actually' post on why getting 8 teams in the Tournament is a bad thing.

That's an easy one. seeds. Yeah get 8 teams but only 2 above the 7 line.

And it's pretty close to impossible to get 8 teams. going to take 8-10 records bare minimum to get in and for some 9-9.

It'd be much better for the league to get 6 teams in but have much stronger seeds. The goal of the season isn't to just make the tournament.

The 1991 Big East put 7 of 9 s hooks in the tourney. That’s the highest percentage ever. Let’s see if we can break that this year. We have a good shot.

Show me a potential conference standings that would beat that.
