Gumby, see original post. On an xu board they all joked about trolling. But legit, I don’t think much of X and think they have a very inflated view of themselves. Jmho

I wonder why my original post in this thread has generated 20 pages of replies, mostly from Nova fans and XU fans baiting each other. We would seem to have just 2 fan bases that are pumped and can't wait for the season to begin. Where the heck is everybody else? In particular, why don't the Hall fans seem very excited -- about a third of the national pundits think they're gonna be the best team in the conference, and they have a legit contender for NPOY in Powell?

How exactly did the Nova fans get "really bothered" in this thread? Frankly, for the amount of success Nova has enjoyed, I've always found most of their fans here to be very balanced and reserved - - they've handled success very well generally speaking and certainly around here.

"A program which has accomplished so little". Sure, okay. 3 E8's, multiple S16's, the most NCAAT wins without making a F4, multiple players in the NBA over the years since the rebirth of the program, Forbes Top 20 Most Valuable Programs list for years, including when X was in the A10 and Duke, Syracuse and Xavier were the only private schools that made the list, the Cintas Center, etc. I could go on, but you'll only get lathered up and Greg Marmalard yourself again.

Move away from your keyboard. You're making a fool of yourself.

I think what naturally happens is that fans get defensive when you take shots at their team and then in turn they post something absurd and then it becomes a vicious cycle of troll-la-palooza. I think for the most part (until recently) the HLOH crowd has been partisan and loyal but respectful to one another. Perhaps that is changing. We'll see. Sign of the times in the country--pick your tribe and say as many ridiculous things that you can about your opponent regardless of any basis in fact. It's all in an effort to trigger something. I don't get it. But a lot of people have spent huge swaths of time peddling nonsense in an effort to get a reaction. Stever was a master at it for a while.

I blame it on the summer heat wave, along with your point about fan bases being defensive while defending their programs.

We have a lot to look forward to as a conference. I hope Nova remains successful and I hope Xavier and a few other Big East programs join them at that level in order to balance out the national perception of the conference.

Besides, as we close in on the OOC schedule, I imagine the camaraderie around here will increase. Let hell and smack enter back into it after that as we move towards beating up on each other.
