They have even less reason to take on crappy football programs, with crappy stadiums with no tradition like UC.

UC will never get in the B12. Now what could happen is the B12 could implode and the loser schools that would then be excluded from the P4 would probably merge with AAC schools but that would still leave UC on the outside of big time college football.

This IS A BEast B-BALL board but I can’t resist commenting on this load of BS.

The Bearcat football program has been killing it for over a decade. Other than Tuberville flaming out in his last 2 seasons, UC has piled up a ton of wins. Kelly had them ranked #3 and undefeated until he weaseled off to South Bend and refused to coach them in the Sugar Bowl vs Florida. As a matter of fact, had a Nebraska kicker not missed a 35 yd FG vs Alabama, the Cats would have played for a NC.

As far as “crappy stadium” goes, your out of your f’ing mind. Nippert has been upgraded to be one of the coolest places you’ll find to watch a football game. The fact that it is located in the center of campus along with it’s well defined history makes it top 10.

And BTW, if it wasn’t for those greedy a-holes in Austin and their Longhorn network, UC would already be in the B12. I can see no reason, other than $$$, that both UC and Memphis would not be a perfect fit. They need a bridge to WVU in the worst way. It would add 2 new substantial revenue markets and some serious muscle to their basketball product. Not to mention expanding to 14 by adding UCF and another. That would effectively end any further expansion for the P5. Orlando is a smoking hot market with world class facilities and would greatly enhance the B12.

As a fellow XU fan, may I suggest you start following a different college football team. Rooting for anything UC related, makes me want to vomit. Not only that but UC is a wannabe program that will never really compete for a NC in football.

Winning 9 plus games in the crappy AAC is nothing to write home about. UC did have a nice run under Kelly in the BE but even their best year, they barely beat UCONN (47 to 45 I think) to go undefeated and would have gotten rolled in the NC game just like they did against Florida in their Bowl game. BE football was not worthy of BCS status and no team in that era was a true NC contender. UK football that season would have beaten UC by 2-3 TD's.

Nippert is a nice old time stadium and if it were the 1950's it would be great but for 2019, it is a dump. It is hard to get in and out of as a fan, the seats are awful, hardly any bathrooms and the on the field product is barely better than GCL football most years. I can't wait until FCC is done playing there.

UC's football team is not attractive to the true big time football programs. Texas does not want a program like UC in their league. Neither does Oklahoma. UC is never getting into the B12. Forget the ACC or B10.

No shame in not being much better than the best high school football league in the country...

UC football is basically all the second tier GCL and GMC kids that didn't get big offers.

Exactly. For a long time in the early to mid 90’s, GCL playoff games would have more fans than UC football games.

Even in the early 2000's they nearly filled Paul Brown Stadium for a few GCL playoff games. I doubt UC could do that

If anyone takes their Xavier (distaste) or UC (silly infatuation) lenses off and looks at UC football objectively, I would think that they would see:

1. A team that was already passed over by the Big XII after a substantial amount of number crunching and due diligence was involved.

2. That was then. UC's position, regardless of Fickle landing there, probably has eroded as it languishes longer in the AAC.

3. Media deals in the future may be even more demanding than what they were when the Big XII took a run at expanding by 2, opting not to do it.

4. Nippert is historic. It has a nice setting. UC pumped a lot of money into it. But Nippert is small-time (i.e. 40k capacity). It cannot deliver true P5 status.

5. As a number here and elsewhere have noted, it isn't even close to being guaranteed that the P5 will expand. It may actually contract.

UC's problem is that, though it is located in the Republic of Cincinnati, it still is in Ohio. For those of you not familiar with notion, Cincinnati kind of snobs itself out of the rest of the Buckeye State in a number of regards. UC may feel and seem "big" inside the I-275 beltway, but it's problem is the behemoth that is about 100 miles up the road in Columbus. That isn't even about shadowcasting. If UC ever again whispers that it can help deliver the fertile recruiting ground of Ohio to Big XII decision makers, open a beer and sit back and enjoy the reactions from Austin and Norman.

They just did with extreme prejudice!!

I don’t know how or why this debate got started, and I’m sure almost everyone here is wondering the same, but there’s not much else going on so why not continue.

As you can see some of my Xavier brethren's intense hatred of the BBall Bearcats, somehow bleeds into the football program. I’d be willing to bet a cold one that they’re all X alumni. Only they seem to be able to conjure up such vile hatred. I however am just a EVERYTHING CINCINNATI guy, so I root for Cincinnati teams period. Some people root for teams simply because they are winners, like a Cincy guy ape sh!t crazy for the Patriots or worse yet the hoards of UK fans that live here.....Makes absolutely no sense. I have suffered thru some Schmidt Fieldhouse days with X and the equally miserable 70’s80’s90’s with UC football, not to mention the Bungles, so I am emotionally invested.

Now let’s go to realville. UC missed the P5 football bus because all the seats were sold out. Somehow Louisville and Rutgers got a ticket but UC was late getting to the station. Anyway, if your gonna slam Bearcat football the 2009 team is not a smart choice. 12-0, beat FOUR ranked teams and THIRTEEN of it’s players ended up in the NFL. The UConn win was close but keep in mind they BEAT NOTRE DAME in South Bend. As far as UK by 2-3 TDs....please. In the Sugar Bowl the players were completely demoralized after Kelly refused to coach them and slithered off to the gold dome. A real bush league move and the guys were simply not motivated.

BTW, I don’t get the harsh criticism on Nippert...have you been to the Shoe in Columbus or Commonwealth Stadium? I have and it’s a freaking nightmare. Give the cozy confines of the Nip’ and it’s new concourse any day, not to mention the fair beer prices........ummm beer.

Xup, I thought I was being fair in regards to Nippert. I agree that it is a nice setting and UC has cleaned it up. I also believe it is one of the oldest continuing use college football stadiums in the U.S. I'm sure the game day experience provides an old college feel. But pumping $70'ish million into it and having no ability to push its capacity up did very little to make UC appear as a viable P5 candidate. Cozy is nice, but 40k capacity isn't what the P5 conferences are looking for when it comes to program stadium capacity, even though a small number of existing P5 programs sport those stadium sizes today.

While I feel the same way about UC as most UC fans feel about Xavier - totally loving and washed in admiration - I still believe I'm being fair about UC's current position in the world of major college football. It is a fact that the Big XII took a very serious run at expansion a few years back, spending a lot of money to crunch the media numbers and research each school. None of them obviously made the cut. That reality likely gets more problematic the next time around.

By process of elimination, the B1G isn't happening, the ACC is a longshot, if that, no way when it comes to the SEC, and the Ohio River is a tad too far from the Pacific Ocean and the Pac 12. That leaves the Big XII - again.

Will the P5 drop instead of add the next time around?

If they add, do the Florida directional schools and Houston, in particular, have a better profile than UC?

It was crazy enough reading some of the thoughts on the UConn board about their program. UC certainly is in a better position than UConn when it comes to football, but that's looking "down". When UC looks "up" it's looking at a substantial gap, IMO.

I actually don't hate UC football, because I don't care about it. Like I noted earlier, I'm an Ohio State fan. UC football doesn't even register with me. So, my comments were offered without much bias. I hope the University of Cincinnati as an institution does well. It's good for the city. UC football? Whatever, but unlikely improving its position in FBS.

UC basketball? May we beat them so badly that the new coach is fired and little Micky comes back from LA LA land after he is let go for exposing himself on the Santa Monica pier after getting fired by UCLA to become an assistant coach under prison-reformed Donald Little, who otherwise is hired to teach a class at UC about dorm life and living with roommates.

Thanks for explaining what was a rhetorical question, makes sense to me. Creighton fans/alums/diehards who grew up in Nebraska have exact same deal as you, but WAAAY more common than X fans or any other Big East fanbase because there is no other FBS (or even Division 1) football team in the state.

Plus 1 Dash.

My uncle played football for UC in the late 1950's and is in their HOF. I never gave UC football much thought until they started acting like they were equal to Ohio State or belonged in the big time league. THEY DON'T. UC football is equal to Miami (OH) MAC level football. Just enjoy what you are if you want to root for them.

The 2009 team was an extreme outlier and it was during a short, short period of time when UC was actually in the club so to speak. UC was never a strong candidate for the real P5 leagues once BE football collapsed. If the B12 wanted to move to 12, UC still would not have been asked over Houston and BYU for example.

If you think UC in 2009 would have beat UK, you need to look at that UK team. I'm not UK football fan but that team played in a tough SEC and would have rolled UC just like Florida did.

Dash was quite fair to Nippert. It is not a big time facility and I am sure that was one of the main reasons Texas and others probably laughed themselves silly when UC "applied" for the B12 openings.

UC will never be big time in college football. As much as I dislike it, they continue to insist on fielding a men's college basketball team that could in theory and practice win a NC out of the AAC. UC football will never win a football NC. Those in power on the football side won't let programs like those in the AAC, MAC, CUSA, Mountain West, etc. legitimately contend for anything other than after though bowl games that actually cost money to participate in.

Yea I don't understand your hatred for UC football, I think you should direct that hate towards Michigan and Michigan State, it's the same in Wisconsin as Nebraska, i don't really like their basketball team but since Marquette usually plays well against them I don't have that much hatred for them just dislike. But their football team I'm actually a fan of cuz there is nothing else other than the Packers. And on top of that i know several people who attended Madison and I'm sure almost everyone who grew up in Wisconsin knows someone who went there. So there very little animosity like the Xavier fans towards UC. If anything I hate Ohio State I can't stand them, every goddamn year they woop the whole league i hate OSU almost as much as Minnesota Vikings or St. Louis Cards or Chicago Cubs.
