In the end, nobody can tell Xavier who to play. Without devolving into a realignment argument (I think everyone can agree that we're good at 11 for a while), I just find it a little strange that a rivalry of X/UD's level don't happen more often. Part of me wishes that Nova has a real rival. I don't know the exact detail of Dayton's boorish fan behavior, so I'll just let it be.
#1. Xavier's primary rival is the University of Cincinnati. If you're a true fan of college basketball, then you know that rivalry to be one of the top rivalries in the nation. It has had its crazy and intense moments, but it has become bigger than either program. So, we have our primary rival. Beyond that, like every other program in the Big East, we are enjoying strong competition in BE conference play. And we otherwise are doing what we need to do in the OOC, especially with the Wake Forest series (Prosser), the Gavitt Games when we're in them, and the new Big 12 matchup's.
#2. Well, you don't understand, nor should you be expected to understand the exact nature of Dayton's fanbase base and their boorish behavior, especially when it comes to Xavier. Xavier's move to the Big East and what had become a very toxic series sealed the fate of that relationship. Little Brother simply became too jealous and got carried away. You are certainly free to believe that UD can become a viable candidate at some point for Big East membership. I would not count on that happening, and that statement has nothing to do with how they may perform in the future (most likely not well, based on the last 30 years of relative suckiness).
#3. I have to believe that most fans here don't view Joe Lunardi as an authority on college basketball when it comes to rankings or NCAA tournament brackets. A quick Google search reflects that NBC has Xavier ranked #15 and ESPN has Xavier ranked #20 at this point in the preseason. If the St. John's fan loves his ghetto experience so much, then call your AD and have him schedule you guys into a home and home with UD. The Cryers would eat that up.
#4. Everyone here who is being honest with themselves knows the Big East is now going to hold at 11, probably at least until the mid-20s, when everything (con realignment) may start shifting again or when the media contracts adjust again (assuming that UConn's entry doesn't involve a major $-adjustment per school and isn't extended into the 30s). The Presidents clearly had no interest in adding a program until UConn came along. Only UConn warranted consideration. Who knows when additional content demands or other unforeseen factors will cause the next trigger to be pulled, but it doesn't look like any of that will be happening anytime soon.
#5. I'm very confident that UD does not have a prayer in hell of entering the BE, but were they somehow to be evaluated against VCU down the road, I would be scared to death if I were a UD fan. The castle has been breached. The precedent has been set. UConn's entry into the Big East smashes the public versus private criterion. With that accomplished, VCU blows away UD on every key metric, especially with respect to market area and size of Fanbase. Gopher Hass to be ecstatic at this point, having learned of the UConn news.
Finally, Cheech, it sounds like you need to fire up some charts and graphs like Muddy once did to explain how UD was going to pass Xavier's program. We are always up for a good laugh around here.

This board is the only place keeping the rivalry alive anyway. For most X fans, UC is the big rival and Butler has replaced Dayton as little brother.

They’ve had two recent national runner ups and were a Gordon Hayward heave away from winning a natty. X has topped out at elite 8 right? You guys have a great program but so does Butler.
Also: Xavier v Cincy is my favorite rivalry to watch. I think it’s better than Carolina/Duke. It always feels like a fight is about to break out at any moment. Usually one of, if not the most, intense games all year.

Serious question: looks like ESPN might be forcing AaaaC to expand and you’ve been mentioned a lot over there (as you have here) for expansion. Would you jump out of the A10 for them? Also, will the A10 get back to being a top 7 basketball conference, removing any desire togoto the AaaaaaC?
