The BE is not going to voluntarily add in VCU or UD as the 12th team. If they thought either added value one or both would have already been invited. This is pretty clear. Clearly neither adds any value to the BE.

The BE can remain at 11 now and be wildly successful like they were with 10.

Expanding to 12 only happens when a program currently unavailable that makes sense becomes available by some conference implosion, etc. VCU and UD can be added tomorrow if the BE wanted. They don’t want either.

Dayton is the most viable, Gonzaga is too far, Notre Dame blackmailed into the ACC, Boston College has football, St. Joe's is in Philadelphia, St. Bonnie is in the middle of nowhere, all the other Catholic schools basketball programs are much worse than Dayton. They would be a great boost to the conference middle tier.

Please explain how the public schools "have too much power". Please explain that while understanding that, were VCU to join the conference, there would then be 2 public schools out of 12.

LOL. Fun thread. I wish the Holyland had a spot to display which school you root for. Tough to tell who's a fan of whom unless the username/avatar is an easy giveaway.

Let’s keep these posts and come back to them during the course of the season. Dayton will be top 20 team. Make noise in Maui and hopefully the way the NCAA works they will put X vs Dayton in NCAA match. Hopefully Xavier will make the dance. The league needs more inventory and teams In the NCAA especially when the Power 5 realign again. Credit to Val and the Presidents to be open and take UConn. Back to good friend at X who thinks I may be delusional. I follow the league very closely , grew up with the Big East coming from NYC and always root for them to beat the Big Boys. We want in and would be a great addition. X fan, this will be a tough next 3 yers for you as the tide turns and we pass you again. Let’s have fun and see what happens this year. I will be sure to keep you up to date on The Flyers!!

And therein lies the delusion. One of the two teams, Xavier and VD, is listed on many top 20 predictions. One of these two teams has a top 20 recruiting class. One of these two teams has a top 10 2020 class (I know it's early, but still...). And VD is not that team in any of those statements. How sad to be a cryer fan, when the thing that motivates you requires such delusional thinking.
Xavier will surprise. Never count them out of the Dance.

In the end, nobody can tell Xavier who to play. Without devolving into a realignment argument (I think everyone can agree that we're good at 11 for a while), I just find it a little strange that a rivalry of X/UD's level don't happen more often. Part of me wishes that Nova has a real rival. I don't know the exact detail of Dayton's boorish fan behavior, so I'll just let it be.

#1. Xavier's primary rival is the University of Cincinnati. If you're a true fan of college basketball, then you know that rivalry to be one of the top rivalries in the nation. It has had its crazy and intense moments, but it has become bigger than either program. So, we have our primary rival. Beyond that, like every other program in the Big East, we are enjoying strong competition in BE conference play. And we otherwise are doing what we need to do in the OOC, especially with the Wake Forest series (Prosser), the Gavitt Games when we're in them, and the new Big 12 matchup's.

#2. Well, you don't understand, nor should you be expected to understand the exact nature of Dayton's fanbase base and their boorish behavior, especially when it comes to Xavier. Xavier's move to the Big East and what had become a very toxic series sealed the fate of that relationship. Little Brother simply became too jealous and got carried away. You are certainly free to believe that UD can become a viable candidate at some point for Big East membership. I would not count on that happening, and that statement has nothing to do with how they may perform in the future (most likely not well, based on the last 30 years of relative suckiness).

#3. I have to believe that most fans here don't view Joe Lunardi as an authority on college basketball when it comes to rankings or NCAA tournament brackets. A quick Google search reflects that NBC has Xavier ranked #15 and ESPN has Xavier ranked #20 at this point in the preseason. If the St. John's fan loves his ghetto experience so much, then call your AD and have him schedule you guys into a home and home with UD. The Cryers would eat that up.

#4. Everyone here who is being honest with themselves knows the Big East is now going to hold at 11, probably at least until the mid-20s, when everything (con realignment) may start shifting again or when the media contracts adjust again (assuming that UConn's entry doesn't involve a major $-adjustment per school and isn't extended into the 30s). The Presidents clearly had no interest in adding a program until UConn came along. Only UConn warranted consideration. Who knows when additional content demands or other unforeseen factors will cause the next trigger to be pulled, but it doesn't look like any of that will be happening anytime soon.

#5. I'm very confident that UD does not have a prayer in hell of entering the BE, but were they somehow to be evaluated against VCU down the road, I would be scared to death if I were a UD fan. The castle has been breached. The precedent has been set. UConn's entry into the Big East smashes the public versus private criterion. With that accomplished, VCU blows away UD on every key metric, especially with respect to market area and size of Fanbase. Gopher Hass to be ecstatic at this point, having learned of the UConn news.

Finally, Cheech, it sounds like you need to fire up some charts and graphs like Muddy once did to explain how UD was going to pass Xavier's program. We are always up for a good laugh around here.

I would appreciate that. Thank you. It gets tiresome.

Also for a rivalry to work, the games need to be competitive. Jimmy Carter anyone?

Xavier's schedule is loaded with the addition of UConn. 27 0f 31 dates already spoken for with RR, UC, Wake, Gavitt and B12 plus Holiday tournament. Brutal. We need the 3 or 4 buy games to work in the new pieces. We got to the BE by playing in tough venues and an attitude that we would play anybody anywhere. Dayton waited too long to adopt to this theory, and now they whine that nobody will play them at home. The Sweater vests were so happy to pummel Tuskegee tech by 50 in the Arena. Well, sorry, nobody has a spot left with these rigorous new schedules with the conference RR's. Schedule some tough OOC games on the road and try to dominate your A10 conference. That's what we did.
