Of course not. But the Jayhawks aren’t coming here. Nor is Duke. But i’d Prefer the above to another milquetoast midwestern school. IF they got their houses in order, which they in all likelihood won’t. I would love a BE presence in Beantown again. I don’t care about St Louis or Dayton or whomever the latest midwestern program of the week happens to be. Sue me.

You should worry about getting your own house in order first. Dayton averaged almost twice as many fans per game as Georgetown did. http://fs.ncaa.org/Docs/stats/m_basketball_RB/2019/Attendance.pdf

I've floated this before elsewhere, but as it seems the all-sports travel issue is too much to overcome with Gonzaga right now, I wouldn't hate it if the Big East as a conference pursued a limited scheduling agreement with Gonzaga directly (since the Zags can pretty much dictate whatever they want to the WCC). Either two or four games a year with BIg East schools on a home/away split, eventually cycling through the whole conference over a period of time. In fact, if you got the Zags to sign up for 4 games a year against Big East teams, with the BE expanding to 11, the Big 12 being at 10, and the Gavitt Games at 8 teams, you could offset the Big 12/BE challenge with the Gavitt Games, fill in the four teams who didn't have both a BE/B12 and GG matchup with a Gonzaga matchup, and every year the entire conference would be guaranteed two out of three of a Big 12, B1G, or Gonzaga opponent on top of the 20-game conference schedule. Could be a useful feeling-out period between the conference and the school, and gives an official reason for those lines of communication to remain open year-round.

Spokane is really remote and a complete cultural outlier to the BE. It would be a complete shock (I was called out for flashing my wad of $60) to any visiting fans, but that said, all of the Gonzaga people I know are good people.

Hey, I don't know if they'll ever be an actual workable addition for for the Big East, but they play some damn fine basketball and for two to four men's games a year they'd be a perfectly suitable OOC arrangement, if the two sides could come to an agreement.

OOC at neutral sites would work.

Having to find 4 one-off neutral sites a year seems a solution in search of a problem. Play them home and home and add a good matchup to the season ticket holders' packages. They're not going to do it simply so that the 50 Georgetown fans who fly cross-country for a November game spend the weekend in Seattle instead of Spokane.

I think this is a great idea. Gonzaga home-and-home with BE teams not in the Gavitts or B-12 games.

Says the closet UD fan

The BE at 10 didn’t need UD. UD brings nothing.

The BE at 11 doesn’t need to add anyone short of ND or Kansas. Both are unlikely but it’s better to wait for either of those two than to add in a mid major garbage program like UD.

As a Xavier fan, I don't want Dayton as they would compete with us for local recruits etc. As a Big East fan, I think they are the best addition. They have a huge fan-base, have built in rivalries and I think they could flourish similar to how the new 3 schools have. If you want to argue these points, fine. But do so with actual facts instead of just childish insults.

Why do you think that? They’ve been horribly mediocre for the last 40 years outside of the few Archie years. I have no faith that Dayton will rise to the level at all. They’ve bungled that program over and over for decades. If Dayton is the best option for expansion, expansion shouldn’t be on the table

No chance Gonzaga commits 4 games with tbd teams. For us if we keep loading up with commitments, we'd lose the flexibility for opportunities like Duke h&h, Kentucky at MSG, etc. With 20 + BIG12 + Gavitt, there's already way too many guaranteed road games for my liking to begin with.

I agree that getting two games out of them is much more likely than four, but it may depend on just how badly they want to sell their conference candidacy. As far as a single game against Gonzaga every few years preventing the likes of Butler from loading up on Kentucky and Duke and UNC.......I just don't buy it. Teams aren't signing those games more than once a season, and you have room for 22 games of conference-connected scheduling, a four-game tournament (which, keep in mind, is going to have some low-major filler games), one premium OOC opponent, and then some buy games. For most of the conference there's a lot more Wake Forest and Ole Miss than there is Kansas and UCLA.

An offer Gonzaga would find too good to turn down is if this is done during the conference season in January or February, when they're typically bored out of their minds playing overmatched wcc opponents. Outside of that, I don't think Gonzaga even entertains this idea of committing even 2 games a season vs. unknown Big East opponents. From Nova's perspective, there's no way I'd sign up for this. We've done enough for the conference already. Let coaches schedule however they see fit.

As far as making room for 22 games, consider that most teams are pretty much locked into rivalry H&H arrangements. Nova's an outlier with 4, but I think everyone else has at least 1. That's at least another road game every other year. Now we're almost at the point of not having the space to make H&H or neutral arrrangement with anyone, because power conference teams (ie not Texas Southern) typically aim to hit certain number of home games (16+).
