thought this was interesting. sounds like this isn't the first time UConn has tried to get back to the Big East. i'll bet this had something to do with the push to expand to 20 games combined with the new AAC contract for both sides to come together

Very interesting. Sounds like UConn tried to make the switch earlier and the Big East rejected them.

What changed? Who knows. My guess is that the Big East presidents are now comfortable enough with the stability of the league to accept a public school and at that one who could still look too leave for the P5. However, if you ask an AAC fan, no doubt they'd say the league is failing and it's an act of desperation. But we all know how delusional they are about how the league stack up.

I think it's probably something to do with the expansion to 20 games. The Big East felt pressured to expand and obviously UConn was the most attractive candidate. We set up another challenge with the Big 12 to try to hold off the P5, but I'm sure they wanted a more long term guarantee.

Thanks for throwing this together. My all time favorite poster from that timeframe was BigEastHomer, a guy whose rooting interests were ucf, temple and, I think, houston. Had to have been the most butthurt poster after we announced we were leaving.

Interesting how the tune from basketball-only Wichita State about UConn is markedly different from the rest of the conference

I think we've always been in contact with Val. Geno and her are VERY close. I also don't think UCONN really wanted to go with the Southern football newbies, but we didn't have much of a choice during the very public divorce.

"When institutions are in crisis they tend to look back on glory days and say in a delusional way, if we could only go back to how things used to be. So yes Uconn has MSG back, but here is the reality, the days of Bug East being a must see in the Garden are over. This move feels like it is being driven by those who lived through the heyday of the Big East and now believe it's going to be just like it was before. Uconn doesn't need the NBE it needs an intervention."

Things won't be like they "used to be", adding UConn back into the mix will not recreate past glories. Our new glory resides in the new guys and in forward-looking strategies, not clinging to the past and the bygone years.
Uconn will not become relevant anytime soon.

You underestimate the value that the history of the Big East provides to the success of our current members. History should not be forgotten or ignored. It drives the fans, it drives the recruits, and creates lasting traditions. That's why the Big East is more than the sum of its parts. The teams that have left the league have for the most part struggled to maintain their quality of play (Syracuse may be the only one with some relevance due to F4), while those that stayed behind have actually for the most part improved their basketball. With that said, UConn is a significant component of that history and adding a program like UConn will drive the fans across the league to games and the eyeballs in TV. I have NO doubt! Yes, UConn sucks right now. Yes, they may suck for the next three years! It doesn't matter - the value UConn adds is more than just win or loses. They have some much brand equity built over the past 25 years that its gonna take more than a decade of subpar performance to destroy it

And the delusion... It's like escaping a cult. What an eye opener this last week has been.

Couldn't be happier to be back.

listen, its sports, man! there is a lot of phony Uconn fan that were wishing death to the big east until probably two weeks ago. I couldn't stand the boneyard and its hatred for the Big East...

I been saying since 2013 the importance of northeast schools playing each other in OOC for the sake of the region and to avoid what happened in college football. That board wanted no part of it!

I get that fans have allegiances, but those allegiances shouldn't be above the game itself!
