I'm still trying to get used to the flipped scripts, where now the AAC fans are trashing us, while the Big East fans come to our defense. It's the real life upside down.

As a St. John's fan I have rooted against you the past few years the same way I root against Syracuse. However, I and most others have always said you'd be a great addition to our conference (see my "UConn smoke" thread from back in December). With this news our position hasn't changed. We never acted as if UConn was a mediocre property. A minority of Big East fans thought you wouldn't be a fit for our league, but hardly anyone questioned the value you'd bring.

Meanwhile, a lot of AAC fans are acting very hypocritical right now. The football fans in particular are fanning the flames while others like Stever aren't being genuine in assessing how valuable UConn is.

Very true. Many here didn't/don't like us, but you did respect our history. Only the most extreme would say VCU for UCONN is an even exchange. Regardless of how bad UCONN has been in football/MBB (lately), it is a bad look for a conference when a school leaves, particularly the only one with the big (non-phony) trophy. They salty as hell.

Not gonna lie, a lot of us enjoyed your recent down spell - it was nice to see you guys suffer a bit after nearly 2 decades of kicking our ass and rubbing our noses in it - but I think we always recognized the value UConn's basketball program brings to a league and would happily take you back at any point. We were adamant that we didn't "need" UConn back and were just fine as is (I still believe that) but UConn's return is still a huge addition that only makes the league better. Anyone who doesn't want you back is just afraid they won't be able to hang.

I think for Uconn- they're definitely valuable. I think you could make the case they're more valuable in the Big East than they were the AAC. Football wise, you can't argue that this won't help the AAC.... It is a true case of addition by subtraction.

As far as basketball, the league had developed a lot even w/o UConn doing much the last few years. If UConn had been dominating the league the last few years, it would be a far greater loss. Lets say the league brings in VCU and they continue the way they've gone- going like 11-2 OOC and then doing well in conference play. That's going to help the AAC get more bids.

I've said many times on here that I hope UConn (and the AAC) continue to be mediocre, just so UConn would leave. With UConn's finances this is a bit of a desperation move, but I absolutely believe it was inevitable. Better jumping in now rather than dragging this out for years.

Now, let's go out and improve our TV contract, add more Tournament credits, increase our already #1 attended tournament, and win more championships.

I'm pretty sure we had confirmed he was an AAC fan (VCU maybe), which sort of fits.

Naw, not VCU - I've never seen a similar username or style on any VCU boards going back to the CAA days.

Big East: If as expected this accession opens the window to contract renegotiations with Fox. Our current contract (from 2013) is undervalued by today's market value. Renegotiations should result in a significant uptick in value of the overall contract terms by todays' standards. Plus adding in the value of UConn's content as well. Big win for the conference.

Stever has viciously dumped on the A10 at every opportunity. It's almost like he knows that A10 is aac's true peer conference as far as basketball is concerned.

Take away uconn's title run, and you'd think the A10 and AAC were startlingly similar. If I was VCU, I'd get Dayton and SLU together and form a pact to stay together unless called by the Big East. It's a good multi-bid conference and I'd hate to see it destroyed by getting VCU poached by a football conference.
