A Review of Creighton

That's unfortunate... MK would have had a very good year for the Jays this year. His age had to be a deciding factor. Incredible that 24 is old.

Age and health for sure. Plus he has his degree. A huge loss for the Jays but I think everyone knew this was coming.

Everyone except the coaches, it seems. But hey, I'm sure Epperson, who has been hurt more than not over the last two years will step right in and be ready to go 36 per game all season long. At least we have a 6'8" back up to step in when Epperson needs those 4 minutes of rest. And we did pick up a 6'7" walk on who decommitted from DIII Truman State as our go to when Epperson gets into foul trouble. So, really no need to have gone out and found someone, anyone, taller than 6'5" this offseason. At least we were one of 3 finalists for Enaruna. That was sure exciting. Certainly, you can't blame the coaches for not foreseeing he might pick Kansas over CU and therefore not going after anyone else. Its going to be a long season folks. And of course, MK leaving early will be yet another excuse next year for a 18-16 finish and NIT birth and bringing back this coaching staff for another mediocre run the year after -- Hey, we are still transitioning to a BE caliber roster. I guess that takes like a decade or so. Sigh.

The game has changed. You can win a lot of games with a bunch of perimeter talent and scrappy defense. Maybe not a NC without 1 legitimate big, but I'll take good all around guards over a bunch of tall stiffs any day. You guys have good guards; you'll be fine.

I assume you are talking about the same guards who led us to an 18-13 regular season title, 5th seed and first round exit in the BET, and fabulous NIT quarter final exit? The same guards who will now not have who was arguably the best player on the team, to be replaced by an oft injured sophomore with about half a season of actual game experience - oh and can't practice this summer as he rehabs from another surgery? Forgive my lack of excitement for the coming season.

Zegarowski-Mitch B-Mintz-Alexander could do a lot of damage. That’s one of the better guard/perimeter groups in the league IMO.

The asst coaches are beating the bushes with zeal. Huss will bring in a good 3star big to back up Epperson. Barring any more injuries we should be able to manage. All we're looking for is a few blocks & rebounds.

Look, I never said I don't like the guys we had playing this past year. They are good kids and have talent. But none of them is NBA caliber talent. If you think you can win the BE or make any kind of a run in the NCAA with one guy over 6'5" on the floor at a time, when you don't have a couple of NBA caliber players among them, you are kidding yourself. I hold two degrees from the school and have held season tickets and been a jaybacker since I graduated in the mid 80s. I have seen the ups and downs. Everyone who knows me knows the depth of the blue that runs through my veins. I am immensely frustrated with this staff and what appears to me to be a serious lack of urgency in putting together a roster that can compete night in and night out against the top BE and top 25 caliber teams. And don't give me the 3d place finish this year against a down BE. We were still 5th seed and bounced first round BET. I simply expect a little more out of this staff. Hell, I have to sit here and read about Hoiberg bringing in 11 new scholarship players in less than two months this spring 60 miles down the road, with several reportedly being quality guys bigger than 6'5". And we can't get one other than a kid that turned down Truman State to walk on?

Why the hell would I be upset with us signing a big guy? I wouldn't have cared if we signed Manny's twin brother. We had to have someone. If you practiced even a modicum of reading comprehension, you would note that my gripe is with those naïve or blissfully ignorant enough to think that a team with two guys 6'6" or taller on the entire roster (one of whom has sat more then played his first two years due to injuries), a roster which won 18 regular season games and finished .500 in conference and lost its best player to the pros, is capable of being successful against Big East and other power conference teams. Adding a Big guy sort of helps us avoid that situation, now doesn't it? And of course, frustration with a coaching staff that seems to have not much of a plan. This is another year like Cashaw last year and Manny the year before where we take a late filler because we missed badly on our primary targets, and we are pretty much hoping he turns out to be at least serviceable. I hope like hell he does.

No, I'm not jumping for joy at getting a player who average 10 and 6 in the Big Sky Conference in 20 minutes of play and fouling out of more than a dozen games. But, he does show potential athleticism and upside, even if against much lesser competition than he will face at CU. Even if he can play 10 a game for us, be a better defender than Frohling, grab some boards, block a few shots and pick up a couple of buckets, we are better than we were a week ago. I don't know much about Jones one way or the other so I am not proclaiming him a savior nor deeming him a wasted scholarship. I don't go on message boards and spout off a bunch of stuff about someone I know little about.
