Regardless, obviously a nice step up.

Out of curiosity, what is fox giving each per-school average here in the big east?

I think $4-5m, but of course that's for just basketball.

This goes all the way through 2032 while the Big East contract expires well before then. We'll see what the next Big East contract looks like. With inflation, numbers will always go up on these deals.

What also matters is expenses, and a lot of AAC teams still won't be able to operate with the expenses they'll have. Have to look at the entire accounting equation.

the last story we saw showed that the Big East was getting about 31-32 million per year from Fox- from tax returns. There was likely a signing bonus to help fund the starting up of the conference that got taken out of the yearly payments.....

One other important thing to remember for this- TV money is only a part of the equation for the AAC. Add in the CFP money, basketball units, etc. and before this everyone was making at least 3.7 million I believe it was in conference distros. Will now be closer to 9 million at the bottom and probably closer to 11 million for top teams.

So much for the thought though that the AAC wouldn't get a huge pay raise.

A step up from their previous deal, but I'm not sure it's even enough to keep some of the programs from operating at a loss. They were receiving roughly this amount of money yearly with the Big East payouts that are going to end and I know atleast UC and UCONN have been operating at massive losses since forming the AAC. And to have the "majority" of their games on ESPN+ is horrific. really bad deal

Oh I agree this is not good. Everyone knew their last contract severely undervalued the AAC, and there was no way that'd be repeated. $7m was pretty much the floor in terms of expectations.

The ESPN+ thing sounds really bad, but I'd need to look more into it. Wonder if this is actually a downgrade in terms of exposure.

No way to spin this deal as good news. At best it's simply "news". We all knew AAC games were going to be televised next year lol.

$4.17M before administration fees. Teams end up getting less than that, and AAC schools won't get $6.9M either.

Maybe St. John's has a chance to poach Dan Hurley away from UCONN after all

Stop it with this 11 million bullsh--. They aren't getting 5 million a year from the CFP and credits. You're an idiot and a AAC homer.

Theyd have to actually make the CFP to receive any CFP playoff money and that is quite definitively never happening for any of them. they'll end up getting like 6 units from the NCAA every year. No, the bottom is not getting 9 mill. and barring a huge NCAA run, the top teams aren't getting 11.

Really not a huge pay raise at all. Without the Big East money, UC and UCONN will more or less stay the same and the status quo was unsustainable for both schools. This is a disaster for them, while being a marginal windfall for the teams at the bottom like ECU.

While I'm sure schools like ECU are happy (good for them), all that matters is what the top 2-3 basketball schools like UConn think of it. You know, the only teams that any of us are familiar with.

Stever can say whatever he wants, but most on the Boneyard aren't please with either the money or ESPN+. They're concerned about UConn football exposure (the sports they're trying to revive and the only reason they're in the AAC).

You lose.

The BE CONTRACT with Fox IS $500 million over 12 years, period. End of story.

Now, where you really get completely hammered is in the fact that that is not a huge pay raise at all. It is virtually negligible when compared to what is needed to compete at the P5 level, let alone to be able to run a football program and athletic department that at least breaks even. That is a disastrous deal for a conference that clearly demonstrates that it has zero leverage in the game.

The hourglass just got turned over on the AAC, and the sand is running through it too quickly for most of the programs in that conference.

.

Not sure if it was meant CFP money coming from a New Year's Six Game. The AAC made that 3 of the last 4 years.
