Jan. 9, 2019 (3) Big East Games

I think last night was good overall for the league. It feels like we have four legit tournament teams in Nova, Marquette, SJU and Seton Hall. I think one more team will sneak in, but when X is not playing those four, I'll be rooting for them to get as high a seed as possible.

looking- the 2 obvious ones are Butler and Creighton.... Both had 4 OOC losses which hurts quite a bit.... Both are 1-2 so far in conference play- so Butler is 10-6, Creighton is 9-6(d2 game doesn't count). 15 games to go. You figure for both to make it- would need to go 9-6 the rest of the way....

You figure for Creighton- they need to probably get one of these next 2 home with Nova and then at St John's. Lose both and 1-4 and 9-8 overall and needing 9-4 rest of the way. That's pretty precarious.
For Butler- these next 2 games are close to must wins. @ Xavier and @ DePaul. They're already behind the 8 ball due to their loss at home to Georgetown.

I can’t get the photo to load. Pretty obviously still in his hand with 0.0 and red light on backboard. Ref seemed pretty excited to call it good. Still never should have come down to this moment.

So much for home court advantage. That's a tough pill to swallow for sure.

For the record, it was a great game by both teams! As to the picture, ouch! Also, our cheerleaders look way too happy.

MU just got back the game that St. Johns got when they used the same refs that screwed them out of the Seton Hall game.....Talk about giving a team an advantage where refs would want to help the team they just screwed!

Round and round we go....

Another apology from the Big East.....Maybe.....Clearly reffing or the lack thereof credible reffing in the Big East is major issue.....

The removal of "chairs" will probably end at the bottom with DePaul.....They seem to always be there for the flush!

On top of that, you had the five clear steps taken by Hauser on MU's inbounds pass with 25 seconds left and CU down 2. Would have still had to score, which was far from a given for this team. But, how a referee stands five feet away from him looking directly at him and doesn't see the five steps is absolutely beyond me. It wasn't even close. CU could have held for a shot to tie or win at the buzzer. Of course, would have had to inbound the ball successfully first .

Watch closely again. The Creighton defender had two hands on his back when he broke to the ball and caught it causing his momentum to carry him forward. Had he not been pushed (even ever so slightly), there would have never been a travel in the first place.

What I don't get is why on earth did Creighton throw the inbound pass deep? They literally could have handed the ball to a Marquette player under the basket and would have won the game.

He got pushed in the back which caused him to take the steps, which is why the ref called it a foul instead of a travel. Overall the officiating was bad down the stretch. I don't know how they called Hauser's three good at the end. Officials should have a sense of what can be done in 0.8 seconds and waived it off as the initial call. It went to review and you could see the clock started late as well. It was close, but it didn't look like he got it off in time to me and I was shocked they stuck with that call. There were a couple other bad calls in OT. Ballock's 5th was just terrible, felt bad for the kid since he had just nailed a 3 the possession before. That Howard turnover they reviewed was inexplicable. It was clearly off Creighton. It's amazing how many times they review a call and still get it wrong.

We have been asking the same question. The deep pass was the only way to lose that game. A short pass (even directly to a Marquette player in the paint) would not have left enough time for a three. Just a bad mistake that cost us a game!

by the way, did anyone watching notice that one of the announcers kept saying Creighton would have to inbounds the ball again under its basket after that play? He said it several times, and then he seemed surprised they were giving the ball to Marquette. Unbelievable. Why couldn't he have been our ref?
