There are 5 components to the new system, numbered in order of importance; the easiest one to understand is #5 - Wins by 10 points or more (even including against cupcakes. I wonder who thought that little stat is relevant? -- somebody powerful enough to get it included as a component for sure! Boeheim? He always scheduled cupcakes before the BE season.)

So if/when the Selection Committee gets down to the 5th tiebreaker in choosing among the last 2-3 at-large bids, the "10 point thing" might become relevant. That teams might pay strategic attention to this utterly trivial item during the season seems highly unlikely to me.

The thing is, we don't know just how much it's weighted. Even if it's 10%, that could be a huge factor. It's not like you said that it's a tiebreaker- it's a part of the rating. So if you have a team like a Providence last year, who had in OOC play several really close calls vs bad teams- it's going to ding their rating considerably. And the thing is, that impacts everyone in the conference because if Providence is say instead of 29 35- they're for the home games now considered only a tier 2 game instead of a tier 1 game.

I know in Ken Pom, which obviously isn't big now- St John's last night dropped from 39 to 42 because they beat Bowling Green by only 4 points.

Take a chill pill, Stever, it's a long season, and at this point we don't even know who's any good. The mind-blowing implications of the 5th most important component of an evaluation system, and that will come into play only when comparing a few teams on the tournament bubble, are just not worth worrying about.
