The league continues to recruit at a high level, and it is incredibly valuable for the growth of the league that ALL of the teams continue to recruit top-level talent in order to ensure depth and parity within the league.

There is no doubt in my mind that other recruits will be coming to the Big East before the year is done, and that does not even include impact transfers (which many of our programs acquire as well).

5 of top 25 transfers are in the Big East according to Goodman, and only 1 going the other way in Tariq Owens.

Why skip over his 2018 class? He was with Xavier until April 2018 (the entire cycle). I don't think he had many players signed despite coming off an E8 and getting a one seed.

didn't he have some guys and they decommitted after he left? Also, that's similar to '15.

Also, your point about coming off the 1 seed- that would have been in March last year. 80-90% of the recruits are signed by that point of the process.

And still, give me 5 years from 14-18 where he gets 3 top 60 guys and 78 (plus some other good guys in the 80-110 range) over getting 4 guys in the 90-125 range ..

Come on Stever, that last point is laughable. You can't seriously be comparing a few months of recruiting without even playing a game (excellent recruiting too, btw- currently top 10 nationally) to a five year stretch. That's ridiculous.

As for the rest... if he did have 2018 recruits, it definitely wasn't many and they weren't that highly ranked. Did Louisville even recruit anybody last cycle? They're not in the 247 top 100 teams. If Mack did recruit, they should've joined him there. Just admit that he didn't recruit well last year. I'm sure we'd all remember if Xavier lost a bunch of star recruits several months ago.

I'm aware he wasn't coming off a one seed, but Xavier was positioned as a top team for pretty much the entire year, as well as during the pre-season.

My original point was that Steele is doing an excellent job recruiting and vastly out recruited Mack's final year. Think he'll take Xavier further than Mack was able to.

stever being stever. Xavier had one recruit decommit, and then change his mind and commit. Mack's recruiting for this season was a freaking disaster. Thank God we have Steele running things. Next year's class looks like the best in Xavier history.
Xavier will surprise. Never count them out of the Dance.

Thanks for confirming. So Mack recruited ONE Xavier 3 star who ended up staying with Xavier because he committed to the program rather than the coach. Mack didn't recruit anybody to Louisville in 2018, either, showing that ultimately he wouldn't have signed any 4/5 stars last year had he stayed at X. Steele meanwhile gets off to an insane recruiting start with a top 10 class nationally (currently).

These are the facts, Stever, so let's try sticking to them.

But hey, if you want to believe Mack's recruiting at Louisville in 2019 would've translated to Xavier, then you're free to think that. I'd just say that's naive given that they're the dirtiest program in college basketball.

Actually, Mack got two 3-star recruits. One, Keonte Kennedy, decommitted and then recommitted. The other, Dontarius James, stayed committed. James is the real deal, and will log a lot of minutes this year as a SF/PF. He has a Big East body, and was very impressive when I saw him in practice. Reports from those attending Musketeer Madness were also very favorable. Of the three transfers who are eligible this year (all recruited by Steele within a couple of weeks of being named head coach), Zach Hankins is the most impressive and will likely start at PF/C. He was the D-II player of the year at Ferris State, is 6'11", and very active. I predict that he will be a player opposing fans will hate this season. Kyle Castlin from Columbia was named co-captain, and will see plenty of minutes backing up Goodin and Scruggs at guard. The third transfer, Ryan Welage from San Jose State, is rail thin, an excellent spot-up 3-point shooter, and likes to play outside despite being about 6' 10". Don't know how much he'll play. There is a fourth transfer, Miles Hanson and also from Columbia, who must sit this season and who will have at least two years of eligibility starting next year. I think Steele did pretty well getting bodies in on short notice.

Interesting, thanks for that.

Seems like something that has been overlooked by nearly everyone is that the BE's NON recruits are arguably the best in the nation.

*5 of the top 25 transfers (including 2 out of top 5) while only losing 1
*D2 player of the year to X
*Arguably best JUCO player (& former 4 star with academic issues) to SJU

What else is there, really? BE is killing it.

To stevers point about highly ranked guys, Steele has dwon Odom committed in 2020 who’s like #45 in 247. Wouldn’t be surprised if he lands at least one more top 50 guy in that class as well

Is he staying in the 2020 class? I'd heard rumors that he could be someone who reclassifies to 2019.

On the 247 composite, which is what we've all used thru the years on these threads- he's currently #109.
