Mustapha Heron a Johnny?

Rumors are flying. He's withdrawn from NBA draft and announced he's leaving Auburn. Would be great to see him wind up in Queens.

According to Redmen it's looking pretty likely. Would be HUGE if true.

I know the whole narrative is he wants to be home because his mother is sick, so it's easy for the uneducated to jump on the UCONN train, but lets not forget how close St. John's is to CT. Also, let's not forget that Heron is originally from NY.

Make no mistake and this is not an exaggeration...if Heron comes and is immediately eligible, we will have a legitimate shot at cracking the top 25 and should easily make the tournament if not do damage in it assuming no injuries. May be getting Mike Rice to be new assistant coach which would help a ton with coaching and recruiting. Simon 6'6 Heron 6'5 Ponds, etc. would have to be among the very best in the country in terms of guards. If this materializes, there's a real chance of back to back Duke upsets as well. Heron is a program changer and was the best player in the SEC.

The odds of the NCAA granting immediate eligibility for Heron are slim and none. They've had numerous chances to allow that recently with no bites.

I've read multiple reports saying he is likely to receive the medical hardship waiver because of his mom.

I don't think he'll be immediately eligible, but this seems to be a unique circumstance. This looks to be a legit hardship. I know they got rid of that, but this still isn't the typical "numerous chances" circumstance.

Glad we beat out UConn for him regardless. If he doesn't play until 2019 and we have a good year next year, then that'd still be an amazing outcome in this and we could help with bringing in a strong 2019 class.

Sorry, but given there's been absolutely no hardship waivers that I know of for the last 4-5 years- I don't see why this would be any different. The NCAA isn't going to want to open this can of worms again.

I thought the NCAA got rid of family hardship waivers? Or did they do an about-face on that rule and I missed it?
