Wait, is this a troll? Even Stever wouldn't go there.

Define "fine". At the very least, BE recruiting has been average for major conferences. In 2018, we were #3 with Top 50 recruits (1-50), #6 with Top 150 (1-150), and #3 with Top 200 (1-200). We also recruited well with 200-250 but I didn't want to go too far back. In what world is that not at least "fine"?

We don't do well with one and dones, but those are probably about to go away and they don't really help teams out too much. The BE formula of 4 year players is working well. Sure, if you care about NBA prospects then by all means go and root for Kentucky and Duke because the BE will never be that. They're not important for winning, which is what most of us care about.

I noticed you skipped my entire reply to find a single line you disagreed with in the original post. Well done. Fine, Big East recruiting is "Fine". But it could be better. Again, even Jay Wright would agree with me on this.

The "single line I disagreed with" is the conclusion to you post, so obviously it's important. The rest of your post I did not necessarily disagree with, which is why I found the conclusion odd as it didn't line up. I could've bolded the single line rather than deleting the rest of the post, but on mobile it's just easier deleting and didn't think it mattered.

Of course Jay Wright or any other coach in the league will always say we can do better. They're competitive and don't settle. But as long as you think we're doing at least "fine" then we're on the same page here lol.

Like I've said on the other board, it's going to be interesting to watch and see what happens when the 1 and dones stop coming to college basketball. It'll be really interesting to see how the entire recruiting ecosystem changes with that.

1 thing that we're seeing a lot more of with regards to the 2019 class, we've seen already I think at least 4-5 guys reclassify into the 2018 class. That way, they can get into the NBA in 2019, with just guys in the 2018 class. The 2020 draft has the potential to be absolutely loaded, as they would have the top guys from not only the 2019 class, but the 2020 high school class. So the 2019 recruiting year could be very different than we've seen, and 2020 all bets are off quite frankly.

i would imagine that one and dones going straight to the NBA stands to benefit a coach like jay wright the most. He makes the best of guys just outside of that top 25-40 range. I wonder if it has something to do with him not paying them lol. If that's why our top end recruiting is worse than Wake Forest's, well, I think the conference is doing something Wright.

couldnt resist, my sincerest apologies hehe...

Some think Omaha is a self- limiting factor in Jays recruiting (beating the bushes to explain recruiting misses - especially the recent loss of Cremo to Nova(it was Jays Nova...not Kansas v Nova) or Flynn to San Dog (Diego) St.
Probably a factor, but many others also recruit to nameless/faceless locales too (Wake Forest, Clemson, ad nauseum) and have reasonable successes.

Maybe we need a Busch Gardens or Disney park to boost the Big O's image? Another Sea World perhaps?

Honestly I think the success of schools like Wake Forest and Clemson in recruiting is overblown. People would assume since Wake is doing excellent that most the ACC is, but in reality Wake is ranked #4 in the ACC for 2018 recruiting. They are one of 3 ACC teams with a 5 star recruit (and they have only one 5 star and one 4 star). The ACC has 5 schools with >1 4/5 star recruits. The BE has 4, which is a higher ratio per school.

As I showed previously, Big East did better than the ACC in recruiting (per school) for both the 1-50 and 1-200 ranges (possibly 1-250 as well but I didn't check). ACC does better in the 1-100 and 1-150 ranges. What does that mean? Recruiting was basically identical. The Big East just didn't clean up the one and dones, but still got more per team overall in the Top 50.

Wake Forest is just a fluke, happens every year with a bottom feeder. You have 3 great ACC teams with zero 4/5 star recruits (Louisville, FSU, UVA).

I'll have whatever it is they're serving at Wake Forest. They consistently recruit very well, while they have had poor coaching for some time now. It's surprising how they continue to pull in 4 & 5 star guys! Must be money...are they an Adidas school?

Only Quinerly is rated 5 star in the BE's 2018 class. None so far for 2019.

Looked at Wake's recruiting for the past 5 years. They're generally around 6-9 range (in the ACC), which isn't amazing but definitely seems wayyyy above what they should be recruiting. I lived in NC for over a decade, knew a ton of UNC/Duke/NC State/App State (football)/ECU (football) fans. Only knew one Wake Forest fan. Combine the lack of interest with the coaching, and wouldn't surprise me if there was something shady going on there.

Only 3 five star players have committed for the 2019 class, and two are going to UK. I really don't understand the appeal of 5 stars. 5 stars on 247 composite are the players ranked 1-28. We only have 1 (for 2018), but we have 5 players ranked 40-50. Shamorie Ponds was ranked in the 40s, and should be at SJU at least 3 years. SJU was involved with a number of 5 stars and believe all of them were one/two and dones. I would without question take Shamorie over any of them.

Do you guys talking about the five stars like the NBA a lot? Then I could understand the appeal more. I hardly watch the NBA, so maybe that's why I don't care for the one and dones.

I don't watch the pros either. Cut my sports down to college basketball only about 10 years ago. Spoke about WF only because their recruiting doesn't fit their recent results. Spoke on 5-stars due to the trend in this discussion about how we don't generally get any/many... Creighton has gotten only 2 in there history (Benjamín before rating began - 1982, Patton 3 yrs ago).

Danny Manning seems to be a much better recruiter than a coach by a couple orders of magnitude

From Zagsblog: http://www.zagsblog.com/2018/05/11/vill ... recruiting

http://www.zagsblog.com/2018/05/11/villanova-is-about-to-hit-the-lottery-in-recruiting/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=villanova-is-about-to-hit-the-lottery-in-recruiting

Heading into the Class of 2019, Villanova is involved for a number of elite players, several of whom could be one-and-done candidates. That group includes guards Bryan Antoine, who trimmed his list to five on Thursday, Scottie Lewis, Cole Anthony, Jalen Lecque, Isaiah Wong, Josh Green and Nico Mannion, who is looking to reclassify to 2019 from 2020. Villanova is also involved for 2019 bigs Isaiah Stewart and Aidan Igiehon, among others.

Nine recruits... How many open spots for 2019 and which ones is Jay serious about?
