Wont matter if he cant coach. Will just be another Steve Lavin who underperforms with great talent.

Although I suppose merely overpowering your competition with talent might work better against garbage midmajor opponents like the ones that dominate the AAC than in a true major conf.

what mid major conference has ever gotten 3 top 6 seeds?

I can think of one...and it did not turn out well for them (you know, cause it's all about March).

Sounds like longtime Creighton assistant Darian Devries will be the next Drake head coach.

CUSA for one. The WAC for another. Before them, the old Great Midwest Conference got 3 seeded in the top 7, hardly a difference worth mentioning and frankly a more significant accomplishment because the tournament wasn’t as big and the GMC was smaller than the AAC. Both the Atlantic 10 and CUSA also got 3 in the top 7 a few times each back when tournaments and conferences were both smaller.

Stever is meticulous and specific with data for a reason. He intentionally utilized the three top-6 sees intentionally because C-USA, while having many years of multiple bids, only had TWO top-6 bids in a given year, but many bids higher than 7 as well. If he said 7-seed, it would have clearly skewed in favor of C-USA, which he would not want to do. However, an AAC team has never had a 1-seed; C-USA has. C-USA (2000-2003) had more annual bids and deeper runs than AAC-present. In 2003, C-USA had four top-8 bids. In the final year of the original C-USA, the league had six bids. In 2014, the AAC (too) had four top-8 bids. However, that was the last year the league at Louisville, and the league has not had more than three bids since.

IMO, 2000-2003 C-USA is stronger and deeper than the current AAC.

CUSA had 3 in the top 6 in 1996 - Cincinnati (2), Marquette (4), and. Louisville (6). In 1997, the WAC had 3 in the top 6 - Utah (2), New Mexico (3), and Tulsa (5). And again in 1998, the WAC had 3 - Utah (3), New Mexico (4), and TCU (5).
