Shout out to the newbies

Postby hoops22 » Mon Mar 12, 2018 12:27 pm

While we all have pride in how well the BE has performed since the last round of realignment, a special acknowledgement is due to our three newest members. This year Xavier, Butler and Creighton all made the tournament, X making it five for five, Butler four out of five and Creighton three out of five years. Although Nova has been the main flag bearer for the conference, our national perception wouldn't be what it is without the solid contributions from the newest members. Hopefully St. John's, Georgetown and Marquette, will stop watching everyone else do the heavy lifting and start providing some fire power themselves soon. In the meantime, we were lucky to get three such valuable new schools in the conference, couldn't have done any better.

I've been an X fan since I went to work there in 1981. It's been great to see us gradually improve our program quality and league affiliation for such a long period of time. The past few years in the BE have been absolutely the most fun years for me to be an XU fan - fantastic competition in a top ranked league of like-minded schools, great coaches EVERYWHERE, more national attention/recognition each year since we all came together, and some great new rivalries.

The next step forward for the BE is for several of our schools to get into the top 25 rankings consistently, year after year and week after week, like only Nova has been able to do in the BE. Kentucky is ranked near the bottom of the top 25 this year, and it's considered a bad year there. We need to get a couple of programs to that level!

yeah, yeah - kumbaya... We are 5 years in - no more newbies. Where are my damned championship trophies Creighton?

Nova and X ARE consistently ranked. Butler, SH, and Creighton get ranked part-time. The conference IS getting there. Next year Prov, Butler, X, and Nova should all be ranked, with StJ, Marquette, Gtwn, and CU knocking on the door. The conference continues to improve and we are getting respect.

It's a great league, proud to be here...and it will be better once my Jays begin winning consistently. ;)

(putting on my BE hat for the Dance...Go Big East!)

Seton Hall fans...If you have gtmo-type confidence contact some of the Creighton guys here or at http://www.bluejayunderground.com or http://www.creighton.rivals.com boards to assist with Omaha logistics. There is also a MW Regional thread on the BJU that should have some information in it by now. You will have many friends and fellow BE SH rooters at the MW regionals. I figure The Hall will beat NC St and weak-ass KU and make it to Omaha. Have a great tourney. gtmo

I filled out a few brackets for work and I have X and Nova in the championship game with Nova winning by 9. :D I was tempted to make X the champs so the Big East would have 2 titles by 2 separate schools but I think Nova is hitting their stride coming into the tourney.

I wonder what is less likely X playing Nova for the championship, or X being able to stay within single digits against Nova?

I love the new additions to the conference......for those of you who haven't attended the BET yet, please put it on your bucket list.....after living in NYC for many years and never missing the tournament, i moved to LA and rarely get to attend anymore......this year, a whole group of friends agreed to buy the full package and we attended every game....my group consists of sju, gtown, nova and pc grads, so we had a strong rooting interest in most games.....was tough sitting next to one of my best friends (gtown grad) during the 8/9 game but we kept it civil....(made it easier since sju won!)....

what makes the BET so great is in addition to amazing hoops, there is so much energy around the Garden at the many bars and restaurants......you end up talking with fans from every school and everyone is just so friendly.....i find the fans from x, cu and butler to be much nicer than the cuse and uconn fans we used to have to put up with.....one highlight was hanging an outdoor rooftop bar called local which had the heat lamps cranking, snow falling and was packed with fans...(many creighton fans since i think they had a meet up there).....

walking into the Garden for the final game was electric....fans from both teams chanting and cheering even before they got through the security gates....truly an awesome weekend......now i'm in recovery mode before i head to vegas for the first weekend of the ncaa tournament.....also a bucket list item!

Hola! First post and I thought this would be the most appropriate thread to do so as I’m a newbie myself :)

Recently was banned from huskersonline.com (they hate Creighton) so here I am!
