Thanks Red Rooster.
We are here to learn!

"Gambler's Fallacy": the mistaken belief that, if something happens more frequently than normal during a given period, it will happen less frequently in the future.

Example:
If a coin is flipped 21 times, the probability of 21 heads is 1 in 2,097,152. But the probability of flipping a head after having already flipped 20 heads in a row is 50%.

St. John's is obviously the best team in the country and Xavier beat the best team in the country twice!

So did Creighton, thank you SJU for the tier one victory!

Yes Ponds should be back next year. If he has a great year next year I expect him to go pro but who knows? No excuses next year...Dixon, Simon, Ponds, Williams, Trimble at guard. Brooks, Keita, Roberts, Diakate, Clark, Owens as bigs. Tons of talent, experience, and depth. In the same way that losing 1 or 2 games don't make a season, winning 1 or 2 games also don't make a season. If these 2 wins came while we were already having a solid year, I'd be throwing a parade. Cautious optimism.

When it first happened, I thought the sequence where Simon missed a layup, Nova got the rebound, and Ponds snuck in behind and stole the ball, took 20 more seconds off the clock then made a shot was going to be the difference in the game. Happened with about 2:40 left and put the Johnnies up 9. But Villanova just kept coming...then I thought Gillespie's 3 with 25 seconds left, getting Nova within 1, was going to rattle SJU. But they made 5 of 6 FT down the stretch. Congrats.

The other thing that struck me was how long this game took. Flipping back and forth between this game and the MU/SH game...the MU/SH game was 4 or 5 minutes of game time behind SJU/Nova for most of the second half and then, with the fouls and timeouts during SJU/Nova, the games ended at almost the same time.

Good basketball games this week. 5 Big East games on Tues/Wed with a total point differential of 17 points with the largest margin of victory Xs overtime win by 5. Wow.

I tell you what, the MU/SHU game could have gone about two hours longer so that all that was left was about 20 seconds in the CU/DePaul game when they joined it in progress, and my evening would have been a whole lot less aggravating.

It was a chest grabber, for sure.

Yes, this! X needs to focus on Nova. Never mind little ol' Creighton on Saturday. Hell, we almost lost at DePaul. We wont' put up so much as a whimper against mighty X. Work on your Nova game plan this week. After all, that game next week is for the league crown.

Lol the outcome on Saturday obviously changes probabilities on the BE championship, but it's still heavily decided by the head-to-head matchup.

I'm sure you guys are hoping X overlooks Creighton, though. I've had that as a coin flip game for awhile now. ;)

I was thinking there's still a miracle chance that we get into the tourney...we'd probably have to win our last 6 (I know very unlikely) and even if that happens we'd likely need 1-2 BET wins in addition. More realistically though, we can split and go 3-3 and we'd probably make the NIT. Hard to see the NIT leaving a team out that just won two top 4 games assuming we end at least .500 to close out Big East play. We may not get a good seed, but we'd make it. Then next year you'd have to think we have top 25 and NCAA tourney potential, though I'm certainly not banking on it. As amazing as the last 2 wins have been, if we go back to starting off 0-8 or similar in conference play next year and are a mess then we really need to question Mullin. My hope is that this year gives the kids confidence and they can turn it into at least an NCAA berth next year. That would mean Mullin can actually work out here. Again, I think we still need a very good assistant coach to help if we want to win 20+ games next year.
