From the Butler Press Release:
Butler Vice President/Director of Athletics Barry Collier announced Friday that the university and men's basketball head coach LaVall Jordan have parted ways.
"After a thorough evaluation, I have come to the decision that a change in the leadership of our men's basketball program is needed," said Collier. "These decisions are never easy, but are incredibly more difficult when it impacts a high-character Bulldog who has represented our university so well for many years. I want to thank LaVall for his dedication to our program, and we wish him and his family all the best moving forward."
A national search for a new men's basketball coach will begin immediately.
Butler went 14-19 during the 2021-22 season, which included a 6-14 conference record that tied for ninth in the BIG EAST.
In his five seasons as the head coach at Butler, Jordan had an overall record of 83-74 (40-54 in BIG EAST regular season play). Butler earned a berth in the 2018 NCAA Tournament and was expected to be part of the 2020 NCAA Tournament field before the tournament was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Bulldogs were also selected to the 2019 NIT during Jordan's tenure.
In June of 2017, Jordan returned to his alma mater as the 24th head coach in men's basketball program history.
Season Record
2021-22 Butler 14-19 (6-14 BIG EAST)
2020-21 Butler 10-15 (8-12)
2019-20 Butler 22-9 (10-8)
2018-19 Butler 16-17 (7-11)
2017-18 Butler 21-14 (9-9)
Five Seasons 83-74 (40-54 BIG EAST)

Any thoughts on replacement? Valentine from Loyola comes to mind but not sure he's attainable...Ron Hunter from Tulane?

Norlander with reason why this happened today- Butler’s staff had been waiting and waiting and waiting for weeks wondering if this would be the day. It is. The reason: LaVall’s buyout dropped significantly today. Rough move by AD Barry Collier. A lot of people thought Jordan, an alum, deserved one more season.

I can understand the move Butler probably has the least amount of resources in the Big East. Jordan had virtually everyone back from last year and the team underperformed. Add in poor recruiting by Big East standards...

It was probably more like 60/40; and those in the 40% were more apathetic to a change - not fully supportive, but wouldn't care if he was given one more year. The 60% were aggressively asking for a change.

The team that needed a change the most kept their coach

pretty much. And some on here would say that the 2nd team that most needed a change also kept their coach.
