This is NOT GOOD!

This will not work out well for a lot of us. The no sit transfer rule, coupled with the NIL $$$ could end up being a toxic cocktail for the Big East. Unless you're Nova, I fear that some of our most talented 1st/2nd year players could be stolen away on a regular basis.

Looks like the UKs of the world will easily be able to fill any need, at any position, simply based on far superior incentives, i.e. compete for a National Championship ever year and all the NIL $$$$ that goes with it. Unless there is a reasonable cap on the money, teams like X could not operate on a fair playing field and would surely lose top talent from time to time. Obviously, the sit out rule was the only thing keeping this craziness from happening. Along with the vast difference in revenue for jerseys and other merch generated by the Blue Bloods, all but ONE Big East School will likely suffer.........not a pleasant thought.

IMO these changes will make it almost impossible to win a NC for most of us...Change Sucks!

The Big East can also benefit from it as well. Especially the NIL since the schools are in the biggest basketball cities in the country... players can make the most money in those cities. Could help DePaul more than Kentucky. Thay could make more moolah on a billboard in Lincoln Park than on a farm outside Lexington.

Things will work themselves out and overall I don't think it'll be too bad. Everyone's still limited to 13 scholarship and 200 mpg of playing time - with 1 ball. For every rising senior Coach Cal poaches, that's 1 more 5* freshman that's gonna go somewhere else - and likely displace a 4* freshman that's also gonna go somewhere else. It also makes it a lot tougher for these top programs to keep everyone happy. It'll be a lot easier for the big recruits who were seduced by Duke and Kentucky only to ride the pine or get recruited over to move to a school that'll give them a chance.

This. Itll kill the mid majors who have star players that aren't making money in their tiny bowl name school. But the Big East's be fine.

It's all about the revenue distribution between player and University. I am hoping that the vast percentage of monies go to the university when the player uses the school/team name. I mean if a player can cash in on advertising (like a billboard), more power to him. In other words, if Zach Freemantle can get paid for a TV spot spouting his new found love of Skyline Chili, great!....just don't mention Xavier University or be wearing a Xavier jersey. Speaking of jerseys, it gets tricky...jerseys generate HUGE revenue. If Zach can find someone to produce and market a plain white & blue jersey with Freemantle on the back, have at it. BUT if it has XAVIER on the front, X should get nearly all the profits. Basically there is no market for a player jersey w/o the associated University.

My biggest concern is that there will be no regulation or cap on money for players. If negotiations for NIL revenue can widely range in the recruiting process, it simply becomes a bidding war.

Exactly. The biggest impact I think it'll have is in the case of say a "B tier" team that has a really solid roster but 1 glaring hole that prevents them from being potentially elite. It's a team that right now would be looking to JUCO or grad transfers to fill said hole but will now suddenly have way more options. And while their will be more movement overall, the players moving will still mostly be star players on non-competitive teams and guys who can't get on the floor for good teams.

Yeah, this, if anything, will likely benefit the Big East. College basketball, and college sports in general, still has a pecking order and a ladder of success. The Big East, without argument, is associated with the top grouping of college basketball. The conference and its schools has resources, facilities, brand names, history and TV exposure to offer prospective players an opportunity to play and shine on the biggest stage. The programs that are in-trouble are the mid-majors. When there is a Steph Curry, a Ja Morant, a Jimmer Fredette, a Wally Szczerbiak, among countless others, they will be poached by bigger power programs - and those mid-majors will backfill with over-recruited players from the power programs, or the high players from low-major programs.

Bottom line is that college basketball, and college sports overall, has evolved over time. There was a time when college basketball was not on TV, when coaches weren't making millions of dollars annually, when the tournament had under 20 teams, and when freshmen weren't even allowed to play. Schools do not own the student-athletes, they should be allowed to make a profit off their likeness and be allowed to transfer without penalty. A computer science major is not prevented from taking summer jobs with a big tech firm and get paid (in dollars and experience) for the work they do. An engineering student is not prevented to sit out a year when he transfers to a more reputable program at a different school. The only area we apply these arbitrary penalties is in college sports.

As previously mentioned, all of our schools being located in big cities and major markets will actually be an excellent resource for all of us to utilize.

Yes, fortunately there is a max on scholarships. That will limit the ridiculous amount of poaching of proven talent that the "silk suiters" can snag but regardless, if the no sit transfer is approved in January, it will really hurt most of us IMO. I mean, most of us will lose the occasional "Super Frosh" to a perennial FF4 contender, only to replace him with one of their players that didn't pan out or some rising Mid Major guy....I don't see any benefit in that exchange.

Yeah because Mickey Williams is just a no name high school recruit right now. You just wait till him an his millions of followers get that college platform to market them. Social media allows you to market anything, if that means these kids put out trick shot videos I don't think you fully grasp the amount of money they can make. It's very old world to purely think about the marketing impact of billboards as commercials.
