Wonder if this could become a trend?

Five-star senior Makur Maker announced his commitment to Howard on Friday morning, becoming the highest-ranked college basketball prospect to commit to a historically Black college or university since the ESPN recruiting database started in 2007; hopes to start the trend of top recruits going to HBCUs.

There was talk that MM has grade issues and may not qualify for college. Hmmm.

If he is squared away grade-wise this makes for an interesting move. Hopefully, it will become a trend.
One thing though...Graduation rates for athletes at HBCU's is just a hair better than at the big schools: HBCU=57%, Main line schools=55%
Seems that if going to HBCU's becomes a trend, the only benes accrued would be W's and perhaps an increase in Shoe Money to those HBCU schools.

No it won’t last. You are never on TV and can go undefeated with their schedule and not make the tournament with a conference tournament loss.

What ‘could’ be a trend over the next few years is schools with black head coaches or prominent assistants will get some guys.

The HBCU thing is a ‘this year’ thing, it won’t have legs. TV lights and fame is an awfully tempting carrot

Highly regarded 2020 recruit Amir Rahimzad has also committed to Howard.
