2 of the best individual matchups of the first round come from the Big East:
Myles Powell vs Fletcher Magee
and
Markus Howard vs. Ja Morant

Marquette's Q1 record of 10-5 crushed Nova's 5-6. I for one don't have a problem with how the 2 teams were seeded. Hopefully both fanbases support each other in Hardford, because uconn crowd will certainly support the underdogs thursday.

For all the mid majors complaining they beat no name teams 25x and didn't get in...Seton Hall beat Maryland (ranked during season on and off), Kentucky (top 10), Villanova (reached top 15), Marquette (top 10 much of year), and they got a 10 seed. What would they have to do to get a single digit seed, beat Duke too? Not much love for the Big East this year though we all know it's down overall. Nova winning BET getting a 6 is silly IMO. I'm just glad CBS showed millions of viewers that the Big East is Power 6 and the AAC is not :D

Seton Hal also had 13 losses. That hurt.

I think one thing this year showed once and for good was that your record does matter.

As far as power 6 labels.....

How exactly did that help the Big East and hurt the AAC?

Labels are dumb as hell. In basketball they are utterly meaningless.

The biggest thing I don't like about drawing Wofford is that, despite pretty much unanimously being considered the underdog, the optics of losing would still be terrible for both the program and the conference.

I also just hate playing teams that shoot the 3 exceptionally well. It's basketball's great equalizer. Nothing is more frustrating than playing 30 seconds of excellent only for them to hit a prayer at the buzzer...over and over and over again. Fortunately, SHU has some experience against that with Villanova, Marquette, and Creighton in the league.

I'm not concerned with our performance this year, if anybody actually does make a run it'd be a nice surprise. It's a down year and we have zero expectations. Wright was also on all the shows yesterday reminding everybody that a Big East team won it all last year. With St. John's inclusion into the field, we avoided any negative headlines about getting 3 teams in. Also, having 5 teams in the NIT and DePaul in the CBI was a nice surprise. I think yesterday went as well as anybody could have hoped for.

I think its pretty simple this year. We will need three of our representatives getting to the sweet sixteen and not less than one to the elite eight. I don't particularly care who wants to step up and take the baton. let's just get it done fellas. That is all. Well, one more thing. Going to need the Johnnies to step up, take care of business against ASU and then take out everybody's darling Buffalo. That will get some attention and spoil a lot of brackets.

Nice to dream, but no way we are sending 3 teams to the Sweet 16. Just going by betting lines, we are only expected to go 2-2 in the round of 64... and after that maybe 1 team makes it out of the first weekend. I'd consider one team to the Sweet 16 a success for this year. How many of our teams are actually in the top 16 of any rankings service? Zero.

So do you see that as a statement by the committee against strong OOC schedules?

Where would the Hall be if its OOC was replaced with SJU's? The Pirates would lose their top 2 wins, but come into today at 23-10 instead of 20-13. If the answer his seeded higher, the committee has its priorities backwards IMO.
