That's a sneaky game with IUPUI. They'll probably finish in the top 3 or 4 of the Horizon. That's not a walk.

Tuesday is a kind of day with the new NET ratings where any game that is close on Tuesday will hurt the league. In Ken Pom- all 8 Big East teams favored by at least 14 points. Where before with the RPI just winning was the important thing. Having these all be at least 10 point wins now is the crucial part of Tuesday and days like it where not playing good teams at all(best team by KP rating #234 UMBC).

Dude, did you really say “crucial” as it relates to opening night? My man, you really need to get laid...and soon.
Crucial?

I said nights like Tuesday.... Given there are only 30-31 data points- individual games mean quite bit. For 2 of the 8 teams playing on Tuesday- their opponent is their easiest of the season. A 3rd is the 2nd easiest. Also these are the kind of games that I know in Ken Pom will ding your rating 7-10+ spots easily, even in a win.

Citing KP preseason rankings tells us nothing about how good teams will be. Those will change wildly and rapidly once games are played.

It's more crucial for teams like St. John's than others. But it's supposed to be capped at 10, so the difference between a 9 point win and a double digit win probably ends up being negligible.

Hope we don't continue the habit of playing as low as our competition. With the amount of talent and experience we have, we should be routinely crushing cupcakes. Cal, Rutgers, Georgia Tech, Temple, etc. will be nailbiters we just have to find a way to win. Duke is really the only game OOC where it would not be a surprise if we lost. We were in almost every game to the end last year, but we could not close and we choked in the final minutes. That can't be the case this year. We have as much talent on paper as much of the ranked teams do starting the year. This will be the year Mullin breaks through (tourney berth) or resigns.
Wishing health and good luck to my Johnnies and our other Big East brothers!
