Interesting that several schools (Georgetown, Creighton), manage to spend every single dollar of revenue.

They mention that it's an accounting gimmick or massaging of the numbers.

Yeah, I imagined Baghdad Bob announcing those figures when I saw them. There's no way a program will run a multi million venture that breaks even to the dollar.

How does PC spend more than SJ on hoops? SJ has something like 25k students to PC's 5k or so. Both private schools but very different sizes. Very odd...

Immediate quick accounting answer: PC plays ALL of its games in the Dunk, for which it makes lease payments. SJU plays a number of its games on campus in an owned gym. Even if MSG is vastly more expensive per game than the Dunk, I suspect that SJU's relatively infrequent in-season usage of MSG keeps its facilities usage bill down in comparison.

I don’t know if the new 40 million dollar practice facility has anything to do with it but that’s another obvious big money expense.

Cliff Notes:

1. G'town - $17.7 M
2. Marq. - $11.8
3. Nova - $11.1
4. PC - $9.1
5. SJU - $8.2
6. X - $7.8
7. CU - $7.7
8. SHU - $6.0
9. DePaul - $5.5
10. Butler - $5.5

I'd love to see a breakdown on those expenses. When you look at those spending the most on college hoops, the BE is well represented. It speaks well to our collective commitment.

Creighton's numbers seem a tad low. I'd think they'd be closer to Prov...after all they have to pay me and Mac. ;)

While it may speak to committment, it also speaks to waste. Other than Nova, and to a lesser extent Prov...the other 3 (Gtwn, Marq, StJ) in the top 5 are flushing dinars down the shitter.

Piss poor results on a lot of money spent.

Note: New facilities generally are programmed for in special fundraising campaigns, special donor gifts, and the like. They are not part of the annual budgets.

This was my thought as well when I mentioned it. If it does affect that 9 million number, then we know why PC is so high up, but I don’t think it does. And I do know PC spends a good deal of excess dollars on the pampered life as well. 5 star charters and 5 star hotels and 5 star team meals etc.
